Here's PROOF on how gearing will affect your cars times

The car is a 93 Trans Am, ported heads, hotcam, full exhaust, ect. It has a 95 T-56 and the stock 3.23 rear gear ratio.

This car, under the previous owner, went 12.69@105 with a 1.74 short time. It had the stock auto and a 3200 Vig covertor, and the 2-3 clutch packs were burned up, as he was bouncing off the limiter.

The previous owner swapped in the 95 T-56 (do some searching around, there's different gear ratios in the M6 between 93 and 94+), but never got it to the track.

I went to Atco on Thursday night.

First run ever with this car, was:

2.12 short time, 13.16@106.9 bouncing off the 6200 limiter while in THIRD gear.

Next run was the best:

2.04 short time, 12.988@107.98. I upped the limiter to 6400 and was crossing the traps in third at 6200 rpm.

Can you say undergeared??? 3.73's are going to wake this car up big time.

Thumbs up

Ya, gears will help big time if you can hook it up. When my car was stock I picked up 3mph and 4/10ths et after I installed the 4.10's.

Good luck with that car man.

Yup, I picked up 3 MPH switching to 4.10s as well, but my traction and technique isn't there yet, so I am still running about the same ET. I usually trapped in the 99 MPH range with 3.42s, now I am in the mid-high 102s. Just need more seat time to get the car dialed in!

do you guys think with my current setup, I have a lot to gain going from 3.23 to a set of 3.73? My best times so far have been 13.6 @ 102. Only mod is the full exhaust(LTs and true duals, no crossover pipe).
