Flogging my turd down the 1/8

So I flogged my turd of a 94 z28 M6 down the 1/8 tonite. Temp was high to low 60's.

The car has a flowmaster with no cats, msd ignition and K&N filter of course.

Of course the issues start right at the line with my 60' times. Now I have only had the car for 5 days but im not new to the track really. Without a burnout I put down 2.2x's spinning through first...I couldn't seem to do anybetter, this is launching at 2700-3k. If I went lower I bogged some and then got real bad. I have a pile of time slips that are 9.6x @75...its killing me.

So basically I guess im curious how the 75 trap is...seems kinda low to me but im not sure. Stock is supposed to be what for ET and trap?

problems are M6, tires, 10bolt, newbie
fixes are stickies, 12bolt, practice

once the 60' drops (practice, tires) and you dont miss any shifts then the rest 'falls' into place

trap isnt too bad maybe a mph or 2 slow but all kinds of things could cause that, weather, the launch, where you are shifting at (rpm),

practice practice practice

I was a little jelous of the automatic guys launching ;[

I was shifting at like 5300ish...but I understand now this might be a little on the high side?

Sticky tires sure would help me...I dunno, I either spin or bog. I tried slipping the clutch and everything...what should I launch at, 2700ish?

THanks.

really, higher? My friend told me a little lower...Ill be honest, revving a big V8 scares me..I had no problem revving my Celica or DSM...but eeek.

I also posted in the drivetrain forum about some nitto 555R's and if they would kill my rearend.

Same here about revving. But hey you gotta do what you gotta do

My best run with my M6 TA is 9.518 @ 72 (I missed 3rd). My highest MPH is 75.026. Assuming I didn't miss 3rd on the 9.5 run, I probably would have seen 76. It's just practice. Def run her to the limiter.

I launched at 2500 every time and didn't bog too much or spin much. I'm going to try 26-2700 next time.
Good luck!

NOTE: My best 60' is 2.2 and I was on Kuhmo Ecsta's.

thanks for the info what was your 330' time on that 9.5 run anyway? I see to be slowing at the 330 than I should be I think..but my 1-2 shift can't be that slow...

Your going to have to get some new tires for those 4.10's eh?

I think ima buy some Nitto 555R's but I don't want to kill my rearend

I think the mph is a little low. Should be more like 80 mph. My old 88 IROC used to hit 8.90's at 78-79 mph at the 1/8th.

Yea..revving a V8 that high is kinda creepy at first...last nite i had a little incident where i slipped my car into neutral on accident while i was getting on it..It all happened so fast i'm not sure if i hit the limiter or not..either way it was wayyy up there, in neutral..Trust me..my friend with his LT1..revs the **** outta that thing, and his car has 126K miles on it..Dont be scared, it will handle it..5300 is too early..i would take an LT1 up to atleast 5800..i'm not sure where the limiter is..but if i could shift it at 6K..i would..

I shifted my stock LT1 @ 5200 rpms.... Ran a best of 13.0@106 - 8.4@83 or something in the 1/8... Only bolt ons were SLP cold air and a cut out.. Running on drag radials though - lanching @ around 3500rpms.

You are wasting your time revving the car out on stock 3.42's.. It takes too much time - and power that your car doesn't really have above 5k anyways. Shifting earlier puts your car back down to where you've got some torque.

Try both methods - see what works best

My 330' was 6.218. I think I'm going to try some BFG DR or 555's once the 4.10's are in. Your rear should be fine just don't launch too high. I've got a TA cover going on mine so I'm confident she'll hold.
