Has anyone heard of anyone cracking a windshield from launching???

Sounds like a stupid question, but I have 2 4-5 inch long cracks on the passenger side of my windshield now. I noticed the first 1 right after the first time out on MTs (60 in sig). And now another one is showing up about an inch below that one. Its not rock damage either. The cracks start at the right end of the windshield about 6 inches from the cowl and grow toward the center. I am already planning on getting SFCs next month but want to make sure I wont have any problems once I replace this windshield. BTW, this one is only 1 year old.

There is some degree of flex and twist in a uni-body during a launch (engine torque and energy transfer through the drive train). And that is the reason they make sub-frame connectors to off-set that flex. I’ve heard of body damage and wrinkles during launches, so I believe the windshield fracture is also possible.

Thanks for the reply. Thats what I thought, but Ive been going drag racing for about 13 years and never heard of anyone cracking the windshield. I guess the wife is smarter than I thought...Damn she's always right! hehe

Yep, I have a 67 camaro with a built motor and a 4 speed. I have a 4" crack on the driverside top corner windshield. Also at the top of all pillers have stress cracks in the paint.

MTBeni,

Do you have sub-frame connectors installed on your car?

mdacton did the 86' and the 88' have SFC. What kind of 60' and what combo/times were you running? Just curious as I have a 91.

Are you twisting any on the launch? A better swaybar might be conducive as well.
