HAL QA1 front shock/Spring settings?
HAL QA1 front shock/Spring settings?
I just got my 1993 Z28 Camaro Drag car back together (engine) and while it was down we put on Hal QA1's and Drag springs on the front( I have new gas stockers on the rear). The car has a 383 and put out about 410 hp last engine and a turbo 400 w/trans brake and 4:56 gears in a Moser Ford 9" with 28" x 15" (11.5" wide) slicks.
Now for the question: what is a good starting point for the collars on the shocks to rasise the front end of the car? it is about 6-8" off the ground now and the plastic air dam is about 1.5" off the asphalt!! yes it is very low but hopfully the weight transfer will happen to plant the rear tires.
Anybody have any experience in this set up??
Thanks,
Jim

Re: HAL QA1 front shock/Spring settings?
I just put my car away for the winter so I dont have the exact settings but I have about 2 1/2-3" spoiler clearance. I still can trip the top end timers with the spoiler if I hit the brakes(that can be good or bad in eliminations). I ended up setting the front shocks to all the way soft for maximum transfer and it still stays stable when the front end comes down.

On my car, i set the bottom of the spring 8" from the bottom shock mount on the a-arm. Car sits 28.5" measured on the ground, center of front hub to the lip of the fender.
Re: HAL QA1 front shock/Spring settings?
Thanks guys, I am running the car tonight so I will see how she transfers weight. I guess the best thing to do is to make a pass and get some guys to watch the car and describe how it rocks back. The 60 foot will tell me a lot about weight transfer. I also have a spreadsheet on every run the car has made so I will be able to determine how the car is performing at every "mile" mark (60',330', 1000', 1/8' etc).
Thanks again for the responses,
Jim
