Gonna be going to the track for the first time, what to expect?

Well im going to be taking my T/A to the track for the first time here soon, going to be going to Gainesville Raceway. So im hoping it will be a cool night at around 65* or so. Elevation at the airport there is 150, i have no idea what it is at the track. But ive got a stock (only Hooker 3" catback/cutout) T/A Convertible A4, and i was just wondering what i could expect to run. I know what hardtop cars run around, but i was just wondering what i would run since i have a vert. If im in the 13's id be happy, is 13.7 possible at all? BTW im REALLY light also...

i'd say first pass a 14.2, since you never run well your first pass

Buddy of mine bought a new 98 convertable with A4 and 2.73 gears. In 4 or 5 years of racing stock it never bested 14.10.

Stand at the staging area and starting line and watch the track routine (burn-out, pre-stage, stage, Etc.) before you come to the line with your car for the first time. Basically, be sure you know the correct track routine before your first run.

Ask the tech guy when you show up about the procedures and options. Watch the process (you can get pretty close at Gainesvile).

I have only been on points days but they have a third time trial for those people who want to pay ten bucks for a 50-50 split or something for the best pass.

The track is usually well prepped and the pits are easy to navigate. The people are really nice.

I think your performance will depend a lot on the humidity. I would anticipate low 14's but there are so many variables, especially with the humidy there, that it is a wild guess.

13.7s may be a little much, but you never know. I would expect around 14 flats or a tad higher.

Yeah i figured low 14s, but if i somehow break into the 13's ill be really happy.

Ive been to the 1/8th track in Mooresville, havent races though, just watched. So i have kind of an idea of what to expect when going racing.

But thanks for all the help guys, hopefully ill get out there next week before i leave to go home for the summer.

Also, don't pull up to the lights like a lot of people do, the beams are 20 feet back or so from the tree.

I don't even do a burnout with stock type tires. They just get gummy and spin more. Just roll on the throttle and see how well the track hooks first.
