I crossed the line at the very top of 3rd. My tires, gears, and programming are stock.

I go into 4th well before 1320'. I'd guess around the 1000' mark, maybe a little after...and I'm shifting at 5900-6000rpms. I guess I might be able to stay in 3rd if I bumped the rev-limiter up to 6400 or so (which I wouldn't do).

As Greed said though, there are some people that cross in 3rd...I dunno how because like I said, I'm really not even close.

i'm sure a stock lt1 would still be in 3rd but from the looks of it, ur well into modded ls1 land

i guess some of the slower ls1's don't hafta shift but for most of us, we do

When I had the stock 3.42 rear, I could trap in 3rd. However, the shift light had already come on (6K).

I had my rev limited bumped to 6400 RPM, and if I stayed in 3rd, I kissed the rev limiter at the same time the win light came on.

BONE STOCK 2002 M6
20 passes
Shifted to 4th on every one.
Shifted at 6Krpm (roughly)
According to my dyno sheets, I stop making any gain in power at about 5400-5500 so I shift soon after..

I rarely shift into 4th but I'm hitting my rev limiter about 50-100 ft before the trap. When I shift into 4th I get slower times. Completely stock (with lousy launch) M6, I ran 13.8 around 104. 305 RWHP and 332 ft lbs torque

Im having the same exact problem after i installed the cam and raised the rev limiter to 6700RPM. When i trapped in 3rd gear i got 12.5 at 108mph with a 1.9 60ft. I tried shifting to 4th at the last 100ft or so and i got 12.4 at 114mph with a 1.960ft. Im sure i can get low 12's at 116mph if i can use the 4th gear more in the 1/4mile. FYI guys, 3rd gears have a loss of 20-30rwhp compared to 4th gear.... So bascially if u didnt use ur 4th gear in the 1/4mile u are not seeing the full power of ur car to the wheels. If u are not into road course racing like me, Ur only solution is to change ur rear end gears to 4.10. Good luck.

If you launch the car right and drive it like it should be driven, you should hit 4th gear every time right before the traps. If not, you're doing something wrong.

Does the limiter hit the same for SS/WS6 vs non and between the years or even between cars? I would think so, but there could always be variances.

In the summer I trapped around 103 mph (virtually unmodded and spinning like mad) and I know I didn't hit the limiter in 3rd, but was very close to it. A matter of feet.

Last run (in Oct) I trapped 107 mph (still only a muffler on stock piping as my only mod), but can't remember if I hit 4th or not. Must be getting old. Guess I'll have to wait until the track reopens to find out.

I shift to 4th too. I think that I could stretch it and make it through the traps in 3rd, but I dont know. I usually roll through the traps around 5k or a hair under in 4th.

If u have a M6 and stock rev limiter which is around 6200RPM that means u shifted to 4th to get 107mph. Before i installed my cam and raised my rev limiter to 6700RPM i used to shift to 4th and trap 111mph because the rev limiter was at 6200RPM. If the car has more power it will use 4th gear more.... Its simple as that unless u change the rear end gears.

GM should have put in 3.23 or 4.10 gears in the M6 Camaros from the factory to avoid this problem.
