Frustration at the track
It was COLD last night. about 45 outside. It was my first time at the track with my new set-up. Actually, the first time in about a year. It was also the first time I ran on my new DR's(255/50/16 BFG's). My first pass started off OK,A nice burnout with 16psi in the DR's. But, included a bog off the line and a 2.20 short time. Clean shifts through third, but when I was shifting to 4th, I went into 2nd
. Now ya know, I've missed third before, but I've NEVER done that before. Of course this locked the rear wheels for a split second(long enough for me to give it another try). The out come? 13.61 at 96mph.
The second run was differant than the first. I noticed during my burnout that the car didn't feel right. I staged, then dumped the clutch at about 4500rpm. Spun hard but finally hooked at the top of 2nd. Shifted to 3rd(granny style to not miss it). WTF, The car is no longer pulling hard. A quick look at the tach indicated that the clutch was done(It had been slipping alittle on the street for awhile, but would still bark 3rd when powershifted). I went ahead and shifted to 4th. The out come? 14something at 104mph. I threw the slip away
.
So, I guess my next purchases will be a clutch(my car still has the stock clutch with 106K on it) A shifter(also still has the stock shifter).
The season is pretty much over. So, I guess it will be next year before I can do it again. I'm planning on going to the strip every couple of weekends next year. I'm way out of practice(my last drag car was about 4 years ago). I know my car has the power to run mid 12's. It made 341RWhp on a Dynojet and 340 lbs/ft of torque. I just need to practice, practice, practice. Like the Perelli add says, "Power is nothing without control".
