Friday Fun Night, July 23rd at Cordova, IL
I rode up with some buddies to Cordova and was originally just going to Test N Tune and really work on hitting the tree hard so I could do some bracket racing. First run, the car really hooked, and I was extremely surprised for the tires I have.
.130 was my first light. Not terrible, but definitely needs work. Next run, I flat out hammered the gas and the car still hooked, .172 light. Whoops.
Next time up I went all out. .015 light. Now I know how it works and reacts.
After that, I figured what the hell I'll try my hand at the gambler series they had. My car had been running 13.83 and 13.82 all night. So I figured with the night cooling off, it'd only pick up a tenth or two. So I dialed at 13.80. First round comes up, and in staging, I'm getting nervous because I badly wanted to get past the first round and get rid of the nervousness.
Me:
dial: 13.80
r/t: .096 (Not shabby, but coulda been a lil better)
60':2.03
330': 5.824
1/8: 8.923 @ 79.95
1/4: 13.789 @ 99.85 (
Broke out!)
Him:
dial: 13.21
r/t: .025
60: 1.85
330': 5.393
1/8: 8.406 @ 81.07
1/4: 13.255 @ 100.70
All in all, this was such a close race, I couldn't tell what I should've done, I did let out a little bit at the end, hence the trap speed under 100 mph. If only I would've tapped the brakes some, I probably woulda had him. He won by .0151, which to me, is a damn close race, but I'm sure there are closer. I'm feeling more confident with myself on the tree now, I just need to learn how the car is going to react to weather changes and such. I wasn't expecting the car to drop 4 tenths from a lil bit cooler weather.
All in all, very fun night and I'm proud of myself for getting my best r/t and best 60' which were .015 and 2.025. There were more runs after this, but they were T&T and were nothing special, except a grudge race between me and a friend and we have identical times almost. 13.79(me) to 13.60. It was damn close, I out treed him, he outlaunched me(damn converters) and I started pulling him on the topend but ran outta steam. Great race though. I hope to go again soon and keep on trying.
I hope all of this makes sense.

Hey don't beat yourself up too much for breaking out by 2 hundredths because he had you beat at the tree. If you add the amount off of the dial to the reaction time and compare that's the true margin of victory. His .025+.045=.07. You broke out so call yours .096+.000=.096. There is no way that you could have beat him to the line without breaking out.
The important thing is that you had fun and learned some things.

Don't worry. I got over it easily.
I'm new to it. I still had a blast. I'm going to continue doing it as well. I could probably go again this Friday.
The thing I definitely like about bracket racing is the challenge. It's been a long time since I've been so interested in something. I'm definitely gonna keep trying.
