formula vs my z28

my friend has a 96 formula( with ws6 badges and hood) but i didnt bother looking at it yet to see if its either, its bone stock except the exhaust and its a 6 speed mine is an a4, who would probably have an advantage off the start and also by driving side by side then flooring it, my mods are in the sig, and are there any special techniques for racing form the start in an a4?
thanks

You wont have to worry about traction if you have your dr's on. I never raced in an auto but id assume just hold the brake and give it a little gas but not enough to spin the tires. Then just release the brake pedal. But youre making a good amount more power than he is so you wont have to worry about much techinque anyways.

Re: formula vs my z28

What gears do you have?

The headers give you a big advantage even though you have more drivetrain losses through the auto, because headers make such a big difference on LT1s. With the same mods in the sig, i've had three different combos in this car: A4/2.73, then M6/3.73 (97 T56, 2.66 1st gear), and now A4/3.23 (didn't go this route by choice, the M6 died on me and had to switch back). From a dig, whether you have 2.73s or 3.23s makes a big difference... the 3.23s get off the line a lot harder than the other two combos. The A4 with 2.73 gears seems to be about even with a stock 94+ M6 off the launch, if the M6 driver is decent.

With the same mods listed in the sig, my car is much stronger up to about 70 or so with the current A4/3.23 combo versus the M6/3.73. With stock size Falken street tires, i get the best launch by brake-stalling it to about 1200rpm.... left foot up, right foot to the floor, and she grabs and goes with just a little chirping from the tires. But from about 70mph and above, the M6 has a little advantage since the M6's 3rd gear splits the large difference in ratio change that the A4 suffers from the 2-3 shift. Both have 2nd gear ratios close to the same, but the A4 goes from a 1.62 ratio to a 1:1 ratio on the 2-3 shift, while the M6 shifts 2nd through 4th using a 1.78, 1.30, 1:1 sequence... gives the M6 a bit of an advantage.

My $.01
