first time on track

ran last night for the first time ever. anyone see a way of improving this time. car has 1.6 rockers, cai, shortys, m6 lt1. tires are pirelli pzero 285/35/18

2.48 60ft
6.38 330ft
9.48 1/8
79.6 "" mph
12.1 1000ft
14.34 1/4
101.15 mph

this was my first and best run suprisingly as i bogged off the line. had a couple runs after that launching at 2300 but spun hard with a 2.68 60 and popped out of second on the other.

Get that 60' and you could have some decent times.

do a search on 60' times
that is the most important, as it involves hooking up
and what was your altitude?

tires, suspension, and launch technique

Need to get your launch technique worked in I think. Like others have said, work down that 60ft.

well guys i did a few more mods and am gonna hit the track again this weekend. I added 4.10s, lcas, reloc brackets. Also gonna take the 18s off the back and throw the front 275/40/17 comp T/As on the rear. I have some skinnies for the front as well and will disconnect the bmr swaybar. Last time i went the shocks were on full stiff in front since i hadnt touched them since the install so im guessing i should turn them to soft? ha any more advice or tips guys? i need to hit a 13

If the front shocks are DOUBLE adjustable I would put the rebound on loose and the compression on stiff. This way it keeps the front end up and transfers weight to the rear. Prorac1

they arent unfortunately... just kyb agx's. other suspension is bmr springs, swaybars, lcas, reloc brackets, adjustable pb, stb. i see you have a similar set up on your 94 with some pretty good times. any other mods? whats your launch technique like? tires?

I would leave the shocks loose in the front for good front end rise on launch and come out just off idle, maybe slip the clutch at around 1500. With a t56 its a fine line between spin/bounce, and bog. Than with a good launch on sticky tires and a sticky clutch you start breaking rears and tranys. So thats why i usually leave the drag racing to my race car (with a th400 auto) and snag gears on the street in my 6 speed. Your travling into a very possibly expensive future. Just my .02

i dont do any clutch dumps but before i eased off at 2k and spun hard with a 2.6 60'. i think it was due to my suspension but hopefully it should be okay now. this will be my last time to the track for a bit and also have a back up original rear so not too worried. ha and yeah this things a money pit but oh well. what rpm do you shift at? and thanks for the advice.

I shift at 6000/6200. The only mods I had at that time was homade control arms, a spohn adj TA (GET a good TA) and I had my pinion angle set at -5 degrees. And I had front sway bar removed. The first thing I would invest in is a GOOD clutch and a set of ET Streets. Than look up Taner on this board. Hes the **** when it comes to 6 speeds. Prorac1

checked out Taner and looks like he can drive lol. Well I went back a did a little better. didnt get a chance to switch tires or remove sway bar but maybe next time. it spun more in second and a little in third but picked up pretty good when it grabbed.

re .7044
60ft 2.345
330ft 6.238
1/8 et 9.351
"" mph 80.73
1000 et 11.98
1/4 et 14.17
"" mph 106.08

ran an ls1 this run that trapped the same but ran a 13.1

re .7348
60ft 2.331
330ft 6.186
1/8et 9.267
""mph 79.79
1000et 11.882
1/4et 14.051
""mph 105.26

4.10s,lcas, and reloc brackets made a decent difference even tho it was spinning more.

looser those back wheels dude,

get stock f body 16" wheels with some mt et streets on em for track days if your gonna go often enough.

that alone will probbaly shave off 1-3 tenths depending on how bad your spinning

ha yeah these wheels suck for track use. Replacing the 18s with 17s next month. How are mt et streets on a 10 bolt? Im getting a bmr adjustable torque arm and a mail order tune before next month's track event.

edit* Bought some mts on 16s instead.

edit 2* Went back 12-14 and managed to do a little better on the m/ts. Never used m/ts before so I didnt heat them up as I wasnt sure how they gripped. anyway, managed a 13.8 with a 2.2 60" and 13.7 with a 2.19 60". It spun pretty good off the line but they hooked at the end of first (heated up?). Doesnt spin second anymore though with m/ts
