First time to the track!

Im going to the track on tuesday for my first time. I have an A4 93 Formula.
I have a few questions.
1) This is what I understand about staging..Drive around water pit, creep up until first yellow stagging light is on, wait for other guy to turn on his yellow stagging light. Both go to second stagging lights together. Leave on the 3rd yellow light.

2) Should I power break my auto? If so to what rpms?

3) Any misc tips?

Re: First time to the track!

i think for best results you should:
NOT power brake on the line, sit at the light then nail the throttle it will cause your tq convertor to actually stall at a higher rpm giving you a better 60' if traction is on your side.
some folks say not to do a burn out on radial tires however i feel that you should go around the water box,put the car in the groove back up to where the least amount of water is simply rotate the tires to get them damp then move foward then spin tires to the pre stage beam at this point the tires are not overly hot and they have heated up just enough to work with the track-bite that has already been put down...this method works for me and i understand that it does not work for everybodygood luck and let em have it!

Just go and have fun, experiment on your runs with different take off methods.

Here's a bunch of great info for the first time racer - not performance but more safety. http://www.modernmusclecars.net/foru...hp?do=drbasics

Thanks for the link it was helpful. How does flooring it flash the stock verter into giving higher stall?

i was sort of wandering the same thing here.. i can get my stock converter to stall up and flash driving around in the plaza areas 1st gear i can stall it up to 1400 and then itll bark the tires over, always fun when ppl get to close goin over speed bumps lmao. oh and about your staging thing.. i dunno about going to the second amber together.. i always liked to get there first so i could have that extra second to get prepared. but no matter how u do it stage the same way everytime so you can compare your results more closely each time

Re: First time to the track!

it's called flash stall speed.
if you go to powerbrake look at the tach to see where the tires begin to spin then go out from a stopped position and nail the pedal you will see that your tires will spin at a higher rpm.
brake stall 1400-1600 avg.
flash stall 1600-2200 avg.

Ic, ya i never watched the tach when my tires would spin..never thought of it. So technically its better to just floor it then power break it. What is the stall of the stock converter rated at?

Re: First time to the track!

Well I went on thursday, but didnt run my car! this was one of the first times Ive ever been to a drag strip so I watched them for a while so I knew exactly what to do, but the line was huge by then. Hopefully I will have another chance to go again in the future and actually run.
