First time going to the track

I'm going to be taking my 99 SS to the track soon and it's an A4 with a trans-go shift kit. I want to know how I should launch and what I could probably run? Also, what are my chances of breaking something? All it's got on it is the shift kit, magnaflow cat-back, lid, and bfg kdw's that are brand new. thanks

Re: First time going to the track

it shouldnt break anything, my car has a brand new rebuilt trans with new tires and 3.73 gear, mind you i never got it too hook off the line but i hot lapped it for a total of 14 runs in 3 hours and never broke anything... and it was also pegging the rev limiter for the last 100 or so ft because it wont hit 3rd gear and BARELY hits 2nd, few trans problems left in the woodworks but i think my tech is finally catching on because he mentioned new stronger steels and clutches anywayz it should hold together well, as far as luanching it go on the 1st or 2nd amber (some ppl can do good from the first but the 2nd one can get you a good .6 or .7 easily if u see green you're late) if ur slow off the second amber go with the first. brake torque it to about 1200 and drop it on the light, if the track is prepped well you should be able to lay dead into it, with my 2.73 and 245's i could do that on the street, the 3.73 and wider tire its still difficult even at the track, maybe 3/4 right off and around 20mph nail it the rest of the way. and of course good luck and have fun!

If you cut a decent 2.0-2.1 60' time, I'm gonna say around a 13.2@107.

He's in a Camaro, not a truck. Launch whenever the hell you want. It doesn't matter until you start bracket racing. Generally go off the 3rd amber light. Just stare at the 3rd light. As soon as you see it come on, let it rip. As far as how to launch. Go on a backroad somewhere and practice. Lower your psi to about 26 and try some stuff out. I have the best luck going off idle.
