Angry Even Worse Times

Many of u may remember or even posted under my "terrible times" thread, well here is an update now that I have been to the track again....

First, the only things different on my car for this track appearance was switching FROM 3.73 TO 3.42 rear end gears. And the only other difference was I got PCMFORLESS tuning. I also ran the tires at 25 PSI when i had them at 27 PSI last time. (Dunlop 5000 comps)

And here's the slip (Best time, the others were A LOT WORSE) ...

RT- .808
60- 2.045
330- 5.859
1/8- 8.990
mph - (wasn't working)
1/4 - 13.996
MPH - 97.64

So since I've changed my car, I HAVE LOST 2 TENTHS AND 4 MPH Im so fed up with this car I am definitely contemplating selling it. See my page for detailed mod list, but basically, i have HOT CAM KIT, full exhaust, full intake, 3.42s, and programming, plus a few other minor mods.... AND I'M RUNNING STOCK CAMARO TIMES

I have no idea what's going on, and i don't even know where to start looking for problems...

PLEASE HELP! I'm so frusturated.

The weather was decent, a little windy, mid 60s, cool wind.

I dunno, I was wondering about the false knock too. But I can't really tell if it's retarding timing at all.

Something is sure a miss here.
Need to get a scanner on that car and find out what's going on with it. With the HotCam you should be in the 105's MPH range.

MPH is so far off there has to be more than just weather going on... Have you checked for coil bind? That slip looks like one of mine from the first race of the year...

My car usually runs from high 11's to low 12's, depending on weather. Last fall I blew up the tranny and must have over revved the engine in the process. The car sat all winter and I basically fired it up, changed the oil, and put it on the track.

Come to find out I had two bent lefters, one broken lifter, and one broken pushrod... The car still idled and ran ok on the highway being driven normally. However at the track it ran low 13's at 101-102. We replaced the broken/bent components and it ran 12.12 at 109 at a DA of 1500 feet which is just about right.

All I know is that your lack of power sound similiar to mine...

hmmmm, very interesting Ted.

Come to think of it, when the programming was off on my motor, is was over-revving to about 6700. When it hit around 6200, the car stopped making power and it kinda just coasted until it shifted at 6700. Granted this only happened around 5 times, but the damage may have been done. My car STILL makes no power past 6000 even with the Hotcam. U think it's a good possibilitry I have damaged valvetrain components?

Rather than throwing parts at it, you need to get the car on a datalogger and see what's going on.
Again, IMHO, with mail order tuning you get what you pay for. It is a great base to start with, but it's not setup for your car. To me, a mail order tune is a generic tune for a car similiar to what you have. Kind of like a "one size fits all".
You can get a laptop for $250 and a cable and datalogger for another $200 if you purchase datamaster, or for $100 if you go with freescan.
It'll be the best $$$ you've spent on your car and you'll learn an awful lot about what's going on and how the ECM works.
If you don't want to do that there has to be someone near you that would be willing to spend a couple hours with your car to help.

Pull the covers and see what you can find. It shouldn't take much investigation to see if you have a physical problem.

You have an A-4 don't you? I still say that there is a decent chance the tranny is slipping costing you the mph and time. Don't count anything out. I still say some time on the dyno would tell you a good bit of what is going on.

Thanx again everyone for trying to help me with all these damn problems.

I think the first thing I'm gonna do is pull the valve covers off, and maybe the Intake and see if everything is still mechanically sound. Ted brought up an interesting idea about damaged Pushrods and Lifters, and my engine has over-revved now that i think about it.

If everything is still good mechanically, I'm gonna bite the bullet and throw it on the dyno. Depending on the numbers and what the diagnosis is, i mave be shelling out the $$$$$ for a laptop and LT1 Edit.

I can't believe how much money and time I have wasted on tuning this year

Cuz i had a damaged set of 3.73s in there. They whined like crazy after some hard launches and probably could have gone at any second.

When I changed gears, I decided to go down to 3.42s because driving on the highway with 3.73s is a pain in the @$$. Plus, it takes me a good hour to get to the track, and holding at 4000 RPM for 90% of that time can't be good on my motor

Yea i asked him that too...

I love my 3.73's...

And even tho lots of people do like 3.42's...the difference from 3.23s to 3.42's wasnt worth the hassle in this case, right ryan?

But from what i hear, the gears were bad and the swap was needed, altho i still think if u kept 3.73's, with your stall etc... it wouldve been bad a**
