difficulty level in launching a LS1?

I was wondering how difficult is it to launch. I am supposed to be going to the track for the first time in a week or so, and was wondering if there is anything special to do to prevent spinning the tires too much? Driving it around...it seems like it would be very hard to launch without spinning the tires much. Also what does the ASR actually do, and should i leave it on or disable it? Thanks.

DEFINATELY leave ASR off in drag racing. It will bog down your power. I suggest practicing your launching on a deserted street, to find the "magical spot" with your accelerator, to where you are accelerating, but not getting major wheel spin. That's how you would launch an auto. Manual I have no clue about. And oh yeah, put it in the D without the square around it. Don't bother with the 1 and 2 and shifting thing, regular D will accomplish the same thing faster.

Is your car an auto or 6 spd? If its an auto just clean the tires with a spin, and stall it close to 2k, then let off the brake on the green and mash the gas. This has gotten me consistent 1.9x 60 fts of all season rsas. I turn the trac off, and leave it in OD.

I brake torque to about 1000 RPM and leave it in D. I get 1.9 - 2.0 60 foot times always on the Goodyear F1's. I also drop the tire pressure in the rear to 26 psi. My car with whisper lid, maf ends and loudmouth runs 12.90@108.85 that way.
