Decoding the time slip

Just got back from Sac Raceway up here. Car stuck good, even on street tires. I'm still not too good on the launch, dropping the clutch at 3k bogged it and netted me a 2.5 and a 13.5 @ 107.92. I slipped it next and got a 2.3 with a 13.3 at 107.97.

My last run I dropped it quick and, while it seemed to be as bad as the first, I got my best of 60' time of 2.29, and best e.t. of 13.27 @ 107.77.

My speed is way up there, with the same mods as in my sig. Dyno might be a little off since I lost a few pounds off the flywheel with the aluminum version. The weight loss betweent the ls7 clutch/alum fw combo and stock ls6/ steel fw is only 3-4 lbs so it's not that dramatic a gain.

Is that speed indicative of a 12 sec car with proper traction?

I am still a bit off on how to launch the damn thing. While I don't have any wheel hop, the launch feels really violent and I hear a loud bang as it hooks. I'm wary of dropping the hammer over 3k until I get a dana or 12 bolt.

Is it possible to get a proper 2.0 60' without dropping it at 4-5k?

Assuming I could hook a 2.0 60' what is my car what do you guys assume I can pull? Is it as simple as subtracting the .2 secs off the e.t.?

That's with the SS in your sig? You should work on the launching, i ran a 8.755 @ 80.25 with a 1.9 60' in my stock lt1 (auto). Once you learn to launch, you'll get a much better time. Notice how much higher your MPH is than mine. About dropping your 60', itll be more than .2 sec off your ET because that's .2 seconds were your tires caught traction and you were accelerating.

With a new rearend that you can depend on, and if you can dead hook, you have a solid mid 12 second car, if not faster. Just my 2cents.

Your choice of aluminum flywheel hurts you for launching. The more flywheel effect hat you have the less you'll bog.
It's very possible to get 2.0 60's on street tires and then you'll be in the very low 13s or high 12s. It's all about technique and practice. With our stock SS I would leave at 1800 with a quick dump without moving the gas pedal until it hooked = 2.07 60'

I was running around on nitto DRs for well over a year. Never tracked them, but they hooked excellent on the street. I am running a brand new set of nitto 555 streets right now, tired of the rock chips from the stickier rubber.

I actually had no traction problems launching, every time I dropped the clutch the suspension would bang once violently (no wheel hop) and off I'd go, although two of those times it felt like it bogged. The only problems that arose was some hop on the 1-2 shift but that only happened once.

I am simply too afraid of snapping the 10 bolt to start experimenting with high rpm drops. That's mainly why I was wondering if it was possible to cut a decent 60' under 3k. AL SS590 M6 gives me a little hope

I would jack the car up and check 3 things: torque arm bolts where it hooks to the rear, torque arm bushing and mount where it hooks to the tranny, and the trans mount.

I would just check torque arm mount like AL SS590 M6 said. The banging noise isn't normal. Def. work on your launches, you shouldn't bog off the launch. That's costing you a lot of time. When I first got drag radials on my car, I was afraid to dump it off of the line, so I would just floor it from an idle. It would bog off the line. Since then, I rev it to about 2750 and dump it, and no bogging. My times went from a 8.9 in the 1/8 to a 8.5.

So the bang is probably the tranny hitting the floor board

On my first (and only) time at the track with the T56 (so far) I pulled the following times:

2.302 (13.572 @ 107.81)
2.290 (13.635 @ 107.56)
2.256 (13.580 @ 107.70)
2.242 (13.547 @ 107.80)
2.238 (13.605 @ 107.00)
2.152 (13.402 @ 107.65) <-- best 60', best 1/4 mile

That was on (old, hard) street tires, and with 3.23 gears out back . I was launching basically off idle (maybe bringing it up to ~1500) waiting 'til the car was moving then fully coming off the clutch and onto the gas. I had a couple 2.4's, but that was when I gave it WAY too much and spun off the line .

FWIW, my car dyno'd 317 RWHP / 335 RWTQ, so very similar to your car. It's clear how much difference a tenth in the 60' makes!!

If your tires DO hook, then you need to come off the line a little harder I think? In my case, my tires DON'T hook, so I had to feather it off the line. I can't wait to get the 3.90's installed and run my DR's on the back ... a good launch and sub-2.0 60' times should "hopefully" net 12's???

All your runs are within 1 mph which isn't bad at all. ET varies from traction. Each pass you're making the same amount of power. How the power is put to the ground through traction, shifting etc will determine your ET.

If you do any kind of tuning, concentrate on increasing the MPH, ET will get better as MPH increases unless traction gets worse from the extra power. If you do some sort of change, adjust timing etc, and your MPH increases but your ET slows, don't think of it as going the wrong way. The increase in MPH shows the timing adjustment helped make more power but the slower ET is some other problem.

Some good sticky tires should drop that ET into the low 13's or maybe a high 12 and still have you running 107 mph.
