Decent LT1 times

Iwent out to NPR today for there regular Bracket race. As some of you know I run a stockhead cam only Lt1 Street car. Today thru the mufflers just as i run it on the street it ran 11.293 at 119.01 (which is my new best mph) The DA was +560 ft. I usually pick up.10 with open headers. I'm going to try and get out there between now and the end of the year and run some 11 teens or maybe a high 11.0 if I can get one of those -1000ft nights Frank95z

Yeah, thats decent...hahaha...Thats great for any N/A LT1, especially, with your mods or lack of them...Those Joe Overton cammed cars do fly, though...If you don't mind me asking, what gear do you run? I'm looking to change from the 3.73s to a bit more (higher number) gear, but I don't see many running 3.90s or 4.10s with an A4...Just curious what you run...

I'm also looking at going to 4.10s or possibly 4.30s with my A4, but "slick height" is also a key issue. My 396 LT stroker w/ auto and Vigilante 3200 currently has a 10 bolt w/ 3.73s and 26” tall ET Streets. It is showing 6100 RPM at the stripe on the factory tach (I think the factory tach reads high, probably around 5950 actual). The rev-limiter is set to 6600, so I’m currently leaving some performance on the table with only 5950 trap RPM. The low profile 26” ETs helps to keep me geared low and improves the trap RPM some, but not perfect. The current best run is 11.22 @ 119.3 w/ a 1.61 60ft (all N/A).

I will be installing a Moser 12 bolt off-season and also plan to go to 28” tall ETs, or 28” MT slicks for better and more consistent launches, but the 28s would drop my trap RPM even more. Therefore, I’m thinking I may go to 4.30s to get my trap RPM up to around 6500.

I’ve used some of the online drive-train calculators and most of them pick 4.30s. Additionally, my car is used mostly for bracket racing, so street driveability isn't a consideration.

Thanks guys ABA383 I run 3.73 gears and a Vig3200. With the 3.73 gears I pick up 25mph from half track to the finish line with the tight Vig3200. Yesterday I ran 7.14 at 94.30 at the 1/8. Good Luck Frank95z

Engineer, yeah I run a 26" tall M/T radial and I cross at around 6000 (factory tach)w/ 3.73s...When the 275s wear out I was looking into the 325 50s which are 28", then the 4.10s would be better, I guess...I drive my car on the street all the time everywhere so I may look elsewhere for performance...I'm trying to get closer to the 10s with my 226/234 cam...Going to a QA1 type spring/shock is looking like the way to go to replace my stock springs and shocks...I've got a .10-.15 in my 60' to find...and I've been researching true duals, but no one seems to have before and after numbers from the track. I have to think that 3" duals with an X would have to pick up some mph over my 3" Y and 3" cat back Borla...

...and Frank, thanks, you've gotta love the Vigs...My Vig 3600 is fantastic and has been that way since 1996...Your car flies...no doubt about it..I'm getting there...

Is your converter lock-up or non lock-up? I'm running a 2,400 Vig lock-up and I also pick up 24-26 MPH on the top half.

I would bet its a lock up...I have a Vig 3600 lock up and pick up 25 from the 1/8 to the end...

I am a little late answering because i just got in from racing again today. My converter is a Vig3200 lockup converter. Today the air was a bit worse than yesterday I did manage a 11.31 at 118.96 with a 1.49 60ft thru the mufflers. To answer the cam question with a good tune its streetable. And you would have to contact Joe O to find out the current price for his Custom grind cams. Frank95z
