Custom Cage$$$

How much money are you guys spending on a custom 6 point cage? I would like one that ties into by KB subframe connectors. I would also like to know how much you guys are paying to have them painted.

Thanks,
Craig

Not to butt in on your post but how did you paint the cage without installing it first? Wont all the welds mess up the paint?

I bought a Wolfe 6-point and then spent more than want to know having the sidebars modified to I could actually stand to drive the car with them in place! Seriously, total for the bar, customization, and installation was ~$1,500. It's going to cost a similar amount to have it coinverted to a 12-point by http://www.gforceracecars.com/home.htm, but I like things done right, especially safety stuff.

A good chassis shop should be able to install a custom cage for $100-$150 per point.

The more interior you remove, the less they have to do and it should be cheaper. The cost of the materials for a cage/roll bar is cheap but all the labour to install it can get expensive.

Same thing for painting. Before the interior is reinstalled, it should be painted so any overspray can be controlled better. It shouldn't cost more than a couple of hundred bucks to paint a cage/roll bar.

if you just want a black cage all they use is spray paint maybe 10 bucks worth but if you want custom work it may cost a couple hundred.

Thanks for the replies. I believe I am going with a custom cage over a pre-fabbed cage. That way I can have it tied into the sub-frame connectors and braced as I want. I want to have it painted Silver.
Later,
Craig

$1150 for my 8 pt chro-moly bar and that's including the black paint.
I was going to paint mine green to match the car,but since they always get scratched up,flat black won the award for easiest to touch up.

The S&W cage is a nice kit. In fact I just finished installing mine tonight. Total cost:

$109 - S&W roll bar kit (bought it last year on sale)
$600 - Miller 175 MIG welder (because JB Weld won't pass tech)
$500 - Speedway tube bender (gotta get those door bars to fit)

Looks like I need to line up some side jobs to pay for this new equipment
