I have a 96 Z28. M6

My car previously put down 272/310 with just the SLP LM exhaust.

I have now added the K&N Cold Air intake, mac headers, TB bypass..thats it.

I have street tires on it. I have them set at 30 lbs. I cant hook for anything. When I give it more than 1/2 throttle it will spin.

I can spin 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Are these cars THAT bad??

 

DR's make a huge difference

 

What kind of tires do you have? What size? How are you launching? What's your best 60' time so far?

These cars can hook quite well, but they have a lot of power and it's VERY easy to overwhelm the tires. Especially if you have cheap street tires.

A high-end street tire (the BFGoodrich g-force T/A KD is one good choice) will hook a LOT better than a cheap one (say, Sumitomo). However, neither one will hook if you're sidestepping the clutch from 3000 RPM.

Unhook your front swaybar at the track and bolt on a set of DR's and good shocks on the back. Torque arm cars can hook in a puddle if you do a little work to them.

Sounds like Your car needs a new driver! lol. Or perhaps a good set of sticky tires like mentioned above.

 

30 psi is way to much for just a street tire. My 9.5 inch wide tires on my camaro and at 22 psi they still spin if it gets cold enough during those late track nights.

You're wrong.

The right amount of air varies from tire to tire, but there's no question that ideal street pressure is different than ideal dragstrip pressure.

 

letting the air down from 35 to 18 in quick stages made a diffrence, now I start at 20 and adjust

 

When properly set-up, 4th Gens will hook with the best!

I've had 1.48 60fts at tracks with great prep, however, at the shoot-out at KCIR my best was 1.51.
