Best 60' on BFG KDWS and stock suspension?

Just curious. Went to the strip with my Z28 for the first time at M10. My car is wearing 245/50R16 BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWS with a 400 treadwear rating. My suspension is completely stock. Here's my best slip:

2.121 60'
5.730 330'
8.641 @ 85.23 1/8
11.120 1000'
13.219 @ 107.55 1/4

Anyone here running better 60' times on these tires, or tires with similar treadwear?

All of those simple horsepower calculators tell me that, based on my MPH, I'm making about 346hp at the ground (with just a lid and catback -- awesome!). And all those simple ET calculators say that based on that horsepower figure, I should be at the lights in 12.7. I know those are approximate calculations, but I can't help but feel like I should be cutting a much better 60' time.

Hopefully my next set of tires will be much stickier, between 200 and 280 treadwear. I'm also going to step up to 275's all around, maybe bigger in the back.

I know there are suspension tricks I can do to help my launch... don't worry, planning on those too.

I went 13.4 @ 107 with a 2.16 60' on some ****ty dayton daytonas. Your car isnt making 346 to the ground though(crank most likely), it would trap higher than that, atleast 110 in the 1/4. Get some drag radials, the car will definately be in the 12's. Im going to the track for the first time with the new motor, borrowing a set of M/T et street radials. Def better be in the 12's.

In my underpowered lt1 i went 1.93 on BFG KDWS tires. This was with stock stall/gears/suspension... only mods were the intake and cat-back.

Each brand of tires ratings are different. Treadwear ratings are not universal from company to company. Talk to a tire shop or ask guys what works best. Also don't go too wide on stock width rims or the tire won't sit flat and you make it worse. I am running Firestone SZ50 275/40/17 and the best I have gotten is 2.05. Just some food for thought.

I'll be getting rims too. 17x9, maybe 17x10. Obviously, these tires won't sit right on my 16x8's!

I'm looking at Cooper Zeon 2XS for my next set. A close friend of mine works at Cooper and might be able to hook me up with a deal. Otherwise, I think Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 is the way for me to go.

Yes, tire ratings are different from company to company, but the variance is fairly small, so they do provide a guideline. You can bet safely that any manufacturer's 220 treadwear is softer/stickier than any other manufacturer's 400 treadwear. It's when you're making a comparison like Goodyear 220 vs. Firestone 240 that you can't be so sure.

Dont forget that M10 pavement temperatures were probably no higher than 65 degrees. ALso there wasnt much in the way of rubber on the track surface. Lastly, you have flexible stock lower control arms. Put on some LCAs, a set of drag radials, and you should have your 12-second time slip.

Good run for an otherwise stock LS1.

Thanks Dan, I forgot to take track temps into account. I made that run before noon.

SFCs, LCAs, wheels and tires, and I'd like to throw in a set of LCA relocation brackets too. The list is getting pricey!

Re: Best 60' on BFG KDWS and stock suspension?

I consistently cut 2.1s on my tires and a 2.0 once in a while if I do everything right.

I just put my 3rd set of KDWSs on my car 2 weeks ago and they're a really good tire. I highly doubt if I'll head right out to the track with such new tires on my car right away, but I might try it.

By the way, SFCs didn't do squat for my car at the track, so don't expect much from them in that departmant.

Re: Best 60' on BFG KDWS and stock suspension?

I got a best 60' of 2.0 with the KDWS tires. My car was just lid and Dynomouth on stock suspension and stock 3.23 gears. But most of my runs on those tires were 2.1x so it took a little luck and good track prep just to get a 2.0 out of them. Not the best tires for the track but they do kick butt on the street and in the snow
