battery disconnect switch.

can someone help me wire my switch up? it's a moroso super duty disconnect. i understand the part about hooking up the positive cables and ground off the battery but i don't understand how the alternator will still charge the battery hooked up to the switch. i also keep hearing about installing a relay on the alternator wire to the switch. any help will be appreciated as i am not very good with wiring and don't want to start a fire in my car. for reference i am using 1 gauge cable for positive and ground and 8 gauge wire for the alternator and jumper wires.

All depends on how you wire it, if you wire it like stock, the alternator will go to the distribution block and you will need a relay to shut off the alternator when the switch gets turned off.

The ideal(IMO) way to wire it is to run the alternator straight to the starter....then run a wire from the starter to the disconnect side of the switch....then also run a wire from the disconnect side of the switch to the distribution block. only thing wired into the battery side of the switch is the battery.
