Anyone Have A SPEC Rebuilt? Can It Be?
Anyone Have A SPEC Rebuilt? Can It Be?
A couple of weeks ago at the track I returned to the pits to discover I could no longer shift into reverse with the motor running. Forward gears were accessible but with difficulty.
I have a SPEC Stage III w/ceramic disc & AFW. I called SPEC and they thought it sounded more like a failed Clutch Master Cylinder than a clutch problem.
I replaced the CMC yesterday and no luck ... same symptoms. So, dropped the tranny and removed the clutch. The disc is down to the metal and the surfaces of both the FW & PP are pretty badly burnt and possibly marred. It's seems interesting that my symptoms weren't a severly slipping clutch rather than the ones I had
, anyway, I doubt SPEC will do anything about this (although I haven't called them to tell them what I found), this clutch only has about 10,000 miles and maybe 12 passes at the track but I bought it 2 years ago when I did the new motor and it only got on the street about 18 months ago.
So, I suspect they can do something with the AFW because it has an insert so that can probably be removed and replaced and I suppose I can just get a new disc but what about the PP? Will that need to be completey replaced or can the surface be turned?
I guess the other question is if I even want to stick with the SPEC after this. Does 10,000 miles and a dozen 1/4 passes sound like a reasonable life for a $1,000 clutch setup?
I just ordered a Strange 12 bolt and a Denny's Nitrous Ready DS ... I can't really afford another $1,000 for a McCleod ST, to say nothing of the damn unnecessary $125 for the new CMC
