Im in the midsts of buying a set of hoosier QTPs .. and im scaring myself reading all ur guys's posts about fitting 11.5 tires in the back ...

right now i have 10.5 x 26 ET streets .. but gonna need 28" tires for next season...

Here's what I did to fit my 13.5 x 28 ET streets (Hoosiers 13.5s have 1" narrower section width)

I've been thinking of running 28x13.5x15 ET Streets this year too, I have 28x11.5x15 Hoosier slicks on there now. Keep in mind that the my slicks are the equivalent of 28x12.5 ET Streets as far as width goes.

But I'm not liking how the edge of the tire looks flush with the wheelwell I usually need to run the rear QA1's at 4/5 to cut high 1.4's up here.

I had to deburr the front part of the inner quarter, hammer in the inner fender up at the high spot, bend back the jounce spacers, and I did a little trimming of the rear bumper cover. I like a thumb of clearance between the tires and the body, with that much clearance they never rub.

If I recall there is a 10" maximum tread width in Street class at IHRA and NHRA tracks. It wouldn't matter on a regular night but for points events it would be a problem. That is why I went with the 12 1/2 width tire (only 10" of footprint.)

What size rim do you plan to run and with what back space?

We where just looking at the inside tubs section of a stock firebird at a Chassis shop today and as far as wheel height, and width go: The max size ET street you could squeez under a f-body with a 15x10 rim with a 7.5"BS would be 28"x13.5x15 tire. Get your hammer and sawzall out for some slight trimming and molding.

Those tires on the car above mentioned where tight. I would take caution with the Hooshers because if I'm not mistaken there cross section of a 28" tall tire compared to a ET street is WIDER!

I'm having my rear section of the car done and going to a 15"x12" rim with a 3" backspace and some rear suspension items on M/T ET street's that are 31x16.5x15. You wouldn't believe what has to be done when you go over a 29" tall tire.

Actually, the section width on the Hoosiers QTP 14.5s are narrower than the ET street 13.5"

14.5 QTP - 13.1 section width
13.5 QTP - 12.2 section width
13.5 ET street - 13.2 section width

The QTP 14.5s should fit in my fender wells without further modification. and the QTP 13.5 would have all kind of room.

You can see where the bump stop used to be and how it was cut off. I then spent some time beating that area flat. I did not want to cut the bump stop perch area out personally cause i knew there was going to be a parachute mount in the back of the car and did not want to cut up the strength...

28 13.5 from the inside view..

The Inner front bottom had to be moved over with a "BFH" there was some other little areas that were massaged around to give more room for the tires. I have room for prob 14.50's in there but i do not want them right now. If i choose to go bigger it will be the 29 10.5w tires i like..

If you want to take a look at what is needed to be done Payam come down some weekend and look at the camaro. I will be taking more photo's of the car when it all gets taken apart for paint and powdercoating.

fwiw, the biggest places i had problems with interference was right up by the tread with the hoosiers, which is a full 1.0" wider than the tread width on the 13.5 et streets. i had more problems there than at the actual widest part of the sidewall because of the way the inner wheelwell angles outward as it goes forward. the sidewall wasnt that huge of a problem, i just cut out the whole outer layer of metal where it bows out around the spring pocket
