at bristol dragway (bristol, TN) the track is elevated slightly uphill, like when you are staging a M6 the car will roll backward off the starting line if you dont hold the brake....

all my M6 buddies complain about.you would think being an NHRA track (even the powerade series will be there on april 30) that it would be flat.....

All NHRA tracks have to be with in 1 degree +/- of level. I am willing to bet that Bristol falls within that requirement. There is probably another reason you buddy's car is moving on the line.

Sometimes the starting line in the area where the rear tires sit will get a little dip (for lack of a better word) from all the cars when they leave the line. Sort of an erosion from the rear tires trying to tear the pavement up. This has the same effect as staging on a slight incline. Try staging a little to the right or left of where most people stage. Just a thought.

Years ago I went to a track by memphis that if I remember right the first half was slightly downhill and the second half seemed to match that grade but uphill. (this would have been around '85)
