Question All Roll Cage Guys.....Can you answer this ?

Hey Guys,
I bought a SWRacecar Roll cage for my 93' a few months ago and I'm getting ready to install it very soon. I was wondering after the installation of your roll cages , how much did it affect your ET's and how much did it help your 60ft's ? Thanks in advance Guys.

Loaded question with no real answer. You're adding about 150 pounds to the car so that should slow you down. You're stiffening up the body so it won't flex but that doesn't mean your 60' times will be any better.

A rollbar/cage isn't a performance improvement although it may help slightly. It's a safety item.

Thanks for your input ,but I'm well aware that a roll cage is not an performance part , it's a safety item ,but it has been known to have help alot racecars 60ft's by stiffing up the body. I was just asking a question to people who have seen a difference in thier cars after they installed one. Now ,if you have seen an ET difference in your cars ,please tell me ,if not.....move on to the next post. It's just that simple.

Depends on how many points the cage is. If it is a standard 6-point Roll Bar, forget it. A 10-point cage welded to the frame will notice some stiffening, but not enough to see a difference on the track. The more points attached to the frame the more of a chance of starting to see a difference, I would say a NASCAR/Pro-Stock type cage will make a difference ... but those add a substantial weight as well.

Thanks MRZ28HO. It's a 6 point roll cage.

My six point wellded bar made my sixty foot times more consistent. Not quicker... But more consistent. It also eased my mind and allowed me to focus better on the tree as there was less to worry about. I installed a five point harness and seats at the same time and so the whole package added to my "ritual" in staging. It did stiffen my car up noticiably but then again, I never installed subframe connectors so my car had too much flex prior to the bar installation.

Noticing the differerence, in my opinion, would be determined by how sensitive you are to the car in the first place. I bet a lot of folks couldn't tell. I may do the subframes sometime this year. It is all about keeping the car straight at the launch and wanting good weight transfer but not so much the front end goes into the sky.

That's like saying a K&N filter will give you 5 more hp. Nobody is going to be able to feel that.

My 8pt and subframes were installed at the same time. As already said its not a performance thing.

But I can say it made an improvement. My 60' times are much more consistant and the car leaves the line much more level. I actually slowed down a bit but its a bracket car so I dont mind. I was always borderline anyway and I could always slow the car down to race. But I run in a class with cars af fast as 9.0... I mainly had it done to add saftey on my part if a 9 sec car lost it and hit me at 140+ mph. I am 10 times more secure with a bar and being held in with more than a stock seat belt.

As an added bonus the car is more consistant.
