Alchohol to gas

Hi im lookin at an engine. its out of a sprint car. 350 sbc. runs on alchohol. was dynoed at 820 horsepower at the flywheel. what do i need to do to it to make it run on normal gas? and also how much power do u think ill have after we convert it?

If it's making that much HP on alcohol then chances are it's close to 15:1 compression. The only way you'll get it to run on gas is to run VP Fuel C14 race gas. The carb will need to be changed. An alcohol carb running gasoline will flood the engine.

To run on pump gas you'll need to change the pistons to something closer to 10:1. If you're lucky it may make 400 HP then but I doubt the camshaft would like the low compression.

what if i change the cam and the pistons and throw on my holley 750 carb. what kind of numbers would i pull then? the engine is a 383 stroker.

id put in a real hot cam and prob just forged pistons. i wanna run no more than 10.1. id love 9.5 so i can still drive it. im gunna want to drive it almost everyday.

Same here. Why spend all the money on a high HP engine only to swap over a bunch of low HP parts. Start with a good engine core and build an engine to suit your needs.

Damn that is very high, even for a sprint car. The heads on our sprint car that we race with the Outlaws are 12 degree heads and have 287cc intake runners that flow almost 400cfm at .700 lift. With 14.1 CR, a 268/272 solid roller cam with 410 cubic inches it dynoed a little over 800hp.

I'm not saying its BS becasue some Ford 351 sprint car engines make close to that HP. Working with sprint cars I know that the motor you have there is worth over 30000$ used. It would suck on the street though because their power band is 4000-8500rpm and it would have to idle at 1500+rpm.

My advise to you is sell the motor and build yourself one hell of a street engine. Thats if you own it. Don't accept less that 20000$ if its complete running though.
