5 point harness': Dragster vs Individual?

Just wondering if I should get one over the other because of what seats I'm running. I'm going to keep the stock Camaro seats in it, and I'm getting a 8 point cage in soon.

I saw one guys car, he had a cage and a dragster style harness with Camaro seats and they came over the top of the head rest.

Another friend of mine had a floor mount individual style harness when he went auto-xing and his went over his shoulders because he had them over the side of the seat.

Just wondering if it were just preference, or will it matter when I try to tech my car in at the track?

Thanks!

Buy a rulebook and read the specifications on how they're supposed to be mounted.

Going over the top of the headrest will fail a tech inspection unless you're about 7' tall.

Mounting the shoulder belts to the floor behind the drivers seat will also fail a tech inspection.

NHRA tech will want the belts to be attached to the crossbar of the cage behind the seat and go THROUGH the seat itself at shoulder level. The diagram in the rule book is very illustrative of their intent. They will allow the crotch strap to come up around the front edge of the seat rather than through the cushion as long as you have stock seats. With a cage, it's a lot easier to put in an aftermarket seat.

Remember, if you put in an aftermarket seat it needs to be attached to the crossbar. Per the NHRA rulebook.

How does the seat attach to the crossbar? I've got an S&W 8-point cage that I'm going to install. I also want to get a 5- point harness. Don't know if I want the Y-type shoulder straps or not, or what the advantage is.

My Mustang has this, but I don't see how the seat would attach to it?
