My "friend" in my auto class at school has challenged me to a friendly little race.

He has a 1988 4 cylinder fuel injected mustang witha stock turbo which pushes about 3-4 psi. He also has a 5 speed tranny in it.

I have a 1985 305 Z28 Camaro Carburated everything on both cars is stock. I got the stock automatic forgot which one


Is there any way he could possibly beat me in a 1/4 mile race?

 

sounds like you're talking about a SVO car. if so, i can honestly say i dont know that much about them. it's basically a turbo'd 4 banger. i have no idea what the output is or any performance data.

i have however, seen some SVO cars in the 9s-10s there just like any other 4 banger- build it right and they can take ALOT of boost.

only other thing ill say is, i have owned one of those sorry 305 cars and they are severly underpowered (in stock form). i wouldnt be suprised if the HP is around the same #, and if it is, i would think with his 5sp and prolly lighter weight, he would have an advantage.

Is this race going to be on the street or the track?

 

I do not know much about the SVO cars but I think the race will be close. Your torque should give you the advantage at the beginning of the race. But who knows. Just race and find out.

 

Stock vs. stock it would be close, but I think he'll beat you if he can drive the 5 spd. at all.

IF he's cranked the boost up at all (and isn't telling you), well...you get the picture. With just a little bit of work those things would run low 14's.
