1997 camaro Z28 vs Talon awd tsi

ok my friend has a talon awd tsi and these cars are fast but im a true american muscle fan, but im sick of these f**king ricers thinking they are all fast with this turbo ****! My friends talon does not have the stock T25 turbo anymore but now a 14G turbo with bost control, and C.A.I. we are competing this spring to race, my 1997 Z28 ony has a flowmaster mufler, 160 deg thermostrat, CAI and a hpp 3 so far maybe by feb i'll have some headers and catback. But what do you guys think about this race what should i do in order to kick his ***. I dont really want the bottle yet but i need the best ways to insure true Hp fast!!!!!!!!!

Cross your fingers. My buddy went 12.9 at 105mph with the STOCK turbo. With an upgraded turbo, and a little boost, he ran a 12.1 at 11* on the stock motor, no exhaust. Now with his built EVO motor, its best is a 11.1 @130mph. Watch out... they're actually pretty fast for very little money.

If I were you, to ensure a 105mph trap speed, i'd get a good set of headers, and a cat back, and some gears. Hypertech wont help at all, neither will the flowmaster muffler. Your best investment is sticky tires, cause he'll dig you out of the hole.

-Cam... talon hunter.

I had all the mods leading up untill the turbo swap. Almost did one and while the turbo was shipping to me I decided to sell the car. Shipped the turbo back etc. The car just broke too much! I am in the car I think I should have always been in, now!
but im sick of these f**king ricers thinking they are all fast with this turbo ****!
Why am I offended by this, just because a car has a turbo and is made in Japan makes him a ricer? Heh, maybe I just dont understand. BTW: If thats your mentality wait untill you come up next to a modded evo or Sti. Sure they are ugly, but they are fast.

well this could be interesting... the 14 g has a much better top end than the t-25 does and be sure he is going to school u off the line so u r going to be playing catch up. The 14 g has gone 12's on 1 st gen cars but if ur buddys car is set up well he should pull mid-low 13's.

these things hook hard on the street.because of that theyre hard to run down unless youre making alot more power than they are.i was just talking to a guy that has one tonight and he said hes running 12.7s with his stock turbo.he claims he crushed an lt1 running ET streets and took him for $100.the guy sounded credible to me.

I'm a big time american muscle enthusiast but I also like anthing thats fast wether domestic or import. My best friend just bought a 97 AWD turbo Eclipse with an auto and I've been learning about them while modding it and they do have alot of potential.

With the stock stall converter you can powerbrake it up to 3000rpm at WOT at which point you have max boost and no turbo lag. So the first thing we did was put a B&M tranny cooler on it and change all the fluids and spark plugs.

Next we put on a boost controller but the stock turbo wouldn't go over 12psi. So we got a 14b turbo, 1st gen blow-off valve and throttle body and a k&n air filter. Now its at 16psi and has alot more topend. The 14b definately makes a huge difference

The tracks around here are closed otherwise we would have done one mod at a time to see how much improvement it makes in the 1/4 mile. What we've been doing for now is racing against my car. If he powerbrakes, he has no turbolag so he can hold me off up to about 60mph.

He's had the car for only 3 weeks now but he's already ordered a downpipe and exhaust for it. Thats supposed to make a 40hp difference on these cars. We're also thinging about a larger stall converter and a shift kit but there isn't a very large selection to choose from. Also a supra sidemount intercooler.

Pound for pound I'd say they are on the same level as an LT1, only they can handle alot better in turns.

The reason your stock turbo didn't go above 12 psi was not the turbo. It can run 15psi safely and efficiently. The 12 psi cap was caused by the plastic BOV that the 2g eclipses come with.

Hmmm, you learn something new everyday. I was told they would start to leak much higher than 12psi, never thought about that. Thats why we put on the first gen BOV with the 14b, they are supposed to hold more. We're both newbies

The 1g bov holds about 20 psi stock and can hold up to 25psi crushed. I ran one on my 98 gsx

I'd spray it. DSMs are sick cars to begin with. On 3SI.org they made one go from the fifteens to the thirteens for a hundred bucks. Then again, with the way DSMs hold up, he may not even be running till Feb. I'd be careful if it is though.

PS-If he hasn't, tell him to unhook his starter safety switch on the clutch to help protect him from crankwalk. The truest enemy of any DSM

is it an auto or manual? If it's an auto then get a 3000stall converter, new rear gears and some sticky tires.

Also
Underdrive crank pulley
Headers
electric water pump
manual fan switch (keeping it cool is very important)
Carbon fiber or aluminum driveshaft

that should be good for high 12's if you are lucky.

Price- $2500-3500

You'll have him.

But another thing is you could get the LT4 conversion......that would beat him. think you can get it from Jegs for like 2500 or so. 425hp+ would get him.

ported intakes do wonders!!

and let me give you some more advice the faster car doesn't always win

Keep that in mind.....
