WTF, datamaster TTS program wont record properly?

I'm trying to use the datamaster TTS datalogging program to datalog on my 93 Z, and everything is hooked up right and when you turn the key to the "on" position, everything even displays on the screen with all the sensor readings, etc. and it all seems to work fine and "connected" and it will even give me the TPS % and TPS voltage readings properly when I tap the gas with the engine not running. But everytime I hit the "record" button and then turn the key it just goes to "Lost ALDL connection" and won't record for more than a few seconds at most. Anybody got an idea to why this isn't working?

Looking over the data that it did collect in those few seconds, it is giving me some of the most wacked out **** for readings, such as 2000% injector duty cyle for breif moments.. displaying 10 DTC codes per second, while there isn't even a SES light coming on, on the dash. Also the DTC codes will flash stuff like "low oil pressure" and "high oil pressure" DTC codes at the same time, and then go away the next second and then there will be "right O2 rich" and "right O2 lean" at the same time and it displays as going into closed loop within the 4-6 seconds it recorded and the engine ran (longest one i got), when the tuning was set to run open loop all the time and the EGR codes were suppose to be deleted. I don't get it, its all over the board and the injector duty cycle ussually sits around 18-20% at 1800 RPMS... explaining why it running so damn rich, just don't know the reasoning behind it yet... kinda wish I could just host the 2 datalogs somewhere, but don't know where. What is up with my ECM... is it just not reading properly at all once the engine starts?

I feel ya on the computer program man. When I went to Speed Merchant and they tried to hook my car upto the laptop it wouldn't read any of the data. I have a 93 also and it has been running so damn rich, start it up and you can smell gas so bad. Where did you get that program from by the way and how much? I might wanna look into that to see if I can possibly read my engine and see what's going on also.

This should be in the computer forum, but are you using the correct Datamaster definition file (DA for a 1993) ?

also, are you using a serial connection or a usb connection with an adapter? I have to use a belkin adapter with my usb port, and disable handshaking in the program. Then it works great. If you have no Idea what I am talking about, then you probably are using the program wrong, and need to look through the tutorial to see how to disable handshaking with a usb adapter. Its not hard at all, but just takes some research

I'll disable this, I also have the belkin USB adapter.. Did you have to mess with any of the other settings, such as timeouts or connection timing? I read the thing about "90-93 GM ECM's, mainly typhoons and cylones" where it suggests that they have very tight connection timing and that they suggest starting at 195 and moving up... I tried this and it did nothing..

no, just disable handshaking, don't F with anything else in there. At least I didn't have to to get mine to work properly.

No, that is not what I mean. The 1993 uses a definition file of DA and 94-95 uses EE. When you downloaded it, it should have been DA or EE. At the top of your program window it will say "Datamaster-DA (or EE)..." . It will also show up in the "about" listing in the program headings.

I tried this the other day, disabling handshaking didn't do anything... It just goes into "lost ALDL connection" once you turn the key to start the car, as if I just unplugged the cable from the cigarette lighter. I even tried to start the car and then hit record with the car already running, that also didn't seem too work.

well, did you mess with anything else? you mentioned you had, put it all back to the way you downloaded it, then just disable handshaking. Also make sure you select the correct port... I messed that up a couple times myself.

Yeah I did mess with some of the other settings, but then I set them back to default. Handshaking was disabled the last time I tryed to record with it... I am pretty sure it is setup correctly, with the port and all, cuz if you set stuff up wrong (such as the port number) the program won't work at all, not even with the key in the "on" position and with the engine not running. As of right now the program will begin recording and record just fine until you start the engine. I think i'm just gonna try some different software when it warms up around here and see if that does anything. It seems that everytime I start the engine with the datamaster DA program, the program just shoots up "enginedata checksum error" and once that happens it stops recording and goes to "lost aldl connection" when you go back and veiw what it did record in those few seconds, it reads out stuff like 2000.9% duty cycle on the injectors and just wacked out stuff that makes no sense. I dunno, maybe my ECM is just messed up or something so far off that it won't even record it. I guess using a different program is worth a shot though.
