Is it worth it to learn how to program my own PCM?
This has kind of been asked before, but I just want to make sure. Don't hate me...
I've got a ton of stuff to putt on my car, including heads, cam, TB, 3200-stall vigilante converter, longtubes w/true duals, 3.73's, etc. This is a lot of stuff and I doubt I'd be able to just buy TunerCat or LT1_edit and program it perfectly with no prior experience.
I'm thinking of getting PCMForLess to do the initial programming, then taking it in and doing a dyno tune to tweak it to optimal settings. Is this the best course of action for me?
One last thing... if do-it-yourself programming IS the best thing to do, what's the best way to "learn" about it without ruining my engine? Any good sites out there?
as always...

I have to say that with the setup you are planning on going with that you will want to program yourself. For me, it has been the most enjoyable part of my "relationship" with my car.
First off, don't let someone else program it and you do the fine tuning. That would be a waste - I feel. Just take the stock program and go from there. No one else but you knows your car and how you drive better than you.
Make sure you use DataMaster or some other similar program to work with your tuning software so you can see what your changes do. This is critical. I found I had 10 deg. of false retard when I started using DataMaster. Then I found I was running VERY rich. Both of these issues I cleaned up by programming myself but neither would have been fixed by some other tuner - guaranteed.
Second there are many sites on the internet to learn how to tune. I did research for about a month before I started tuning my car. The time spent learning was well worth it and has kept me from getting in trouble.

This I feel is the best starting place for you to learn. But also make sure and do a lot of searching and glean information from the many sites that have something to offer.
Good luck and tell us all how it goes.
