Worth it to custom program a mostly stock '99 LS1?
Worth it to custom program a mostly stock '99 LS1?
My '99 SS has a K&N cold air intake and (will have) a Magnaflow cat back, cooler thermostat, and that's about the extent of it. Beyond that it is stone stock, and will remain that way. It has an A4. Will having the car dyno tuned and the ECM programmed maximize power, throttle response and fuel economy? With the electronically controlled A4, you would think that you'd be able to alter torque converter stall speed and improve shifting, no? For those reasons alone it would be worth it to me. Sorry about the probably very basic question but any input would be appreciated. Thanks guys!
Re: Worth it to custom program a mostly stock '99 LS1?
A dyno-tune or mail-order tune for that matter will make a noticable gain and is worth the money even on a mostly-stock car in my opinion. A tune will not be able to change the stall speed of the transmission but it will be able to change the shift harshness of the shift points, which will make cleaner, crispier shifts and is another very noticable aspect of the tune.
