I just went to this link and read the instructions, but I couldn't find a picture of it.

Somewhere there is a picture of a benchtop wiring harness.......someone know where it is?

Thanks

D Moss

Getting back to the original subject. I lose communications when the cooling fan turns on in the computer. Seems the drop in voltage causes some sort of lost comunications problem. It does it plugged in or on new batteries. Any one else have this problem? Maybe you do and didn't recognize it. I have repeated it over and over; it's the fan turning on. Watch out for it!

I use a second fan to cool the computer or blow on it at the track. No wisecracks, please.

so pull the fan fuse... problem solved. though i think the fans only coincide with your problem rather than cause it.

It's the fan in the computer, not the car.

LT1 edit. Like I said I've repeated the problem over and over again (It's definately the computer fan). Thank goodness the first time it happened, and on all subsequent tests, I was only reading the PCM.

Just something everyone should be aware of, likely if it happend to me it'll happen to someone else.

I've successfully programed the PCM dozzens of times, in spite of this, with an extra fan or blowing on the computer. Pretty funny sight for walkers by, I'll imagine. hehehe

It happens to lt1edit users too. Ive used the DOS version of Tunercat flashtune to flash my pcm dozens of times without a hitch. Working in DOS mode takes out all the BS running in the background that can potentially cause problems and conflicts which result in a fried pcm.

I turn off all acc. , make sure batteries in the vehicle and laptop are charged, pull the fan relays, plug up the laptop to AC and connect the cables. I always read the pcm first and make sure that goes smoothly...then and only then I flash the pcm. When the flash is complete I wait 10-20 sec befor I turn the key off and unplug the cable. Oh...dont touch anything while the flash is in progress. BTW...I do have a spare pcm also.

I know this post is a little old, but I just fried my 2nd PCM doing everything right and it was on the 2nd car so I would like to build this benchtop setup that AKM has instructions for. Does anyone have some pictures of the one they made, just kinda curious what they look like and such. thanks.

I was also told to always unplug any ignition box (like the MSD 6 that I have). I unplug it from the coil and always read the PCM first, just for security. No problems with umpteen tunes with Tunercat in Windows. I even use a long Cat 5 extension cable from a PC in my garage.

So what do you do with the PCM after you toast it?

I got a new one from Advanced Auto Parts for like $111 and they wanted the core. Or you can have someone like Madz28.com socket and chip it or whatever.
