VSS, TH350, and me....

I did a search and did not specifically find an answer to my specific question.

OBD 1 PCM
The car is not driven on the street (not much anyway). It's main purpose is the track. I see no need for a speedo or even a speedo gear in our race-prepped TH350.

Does the PCM require a VSS signal to run the motor properly...? I am not worried about gas mileage, cruise control, or anything other than idle...part-throttle and WOT engine tuning here. I know in tunercat we have several tables associated with MPH, but will not having a signal impair the performance of the car in any way...?

I just do not see the usefulness of the VSS on a car that the driveline is no longer computer controlled. Load, airflow, intake temps, etc are the essential elements of the tune. If it does need the VSS, I wouldn't be surprised.

No, you don't need the VSS at all for what you plan on doing b/c I am doing the same thing w/o any issues. Although I would like to hookup my speedo just for when I cruise on the street a little.

As already stated, you won't need VSS for what you plan doing.
Just get rid of all the tranny/vss codes in tunercat and you're done.

I believe it WILL affect the above.

A blast from the past.....!!!!

Okay, so after much weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth, the transmission and 12-bolt have been dusted off and are going in the car NOW...!!!

that's goodness.

Now....I've heard from several in the past that literally unplugging the tranny harness won't incur a problem, but...I want to be certain.

I have tunercat and am not afraid to use it....but I am a bit rusty from not doing much tuning in the past 18 months or so.

What all must I change to make the car 'work' properly without a speed sensor and related components on my TH350...?

What did folks do with their harness....? I'd rather not have it dangle and there's not time for me to do a whole re-wire (planned for the winter to clean things up a bit).

Thanks much. Progress is being made and I hope to get it to the track in the next two weeks. Still need the DS though....

I've been running mine for over a month with out a VSS, and I haven't had any issues, I left the wires hooked up, but strap tied to the bracket.

I'll fix mine in a few weeks and test again to see if there is any time difference at the track but I doubt it.

I think without the VSS you wont have a lockup convertor. PCM locks it a certain speeds and TPS. But if its a drag car you may not want it anyway. Just something to think about.
