vortech tuning

I converted to obd1 in my 97' and found I lost e.t. by almost half a second. I had it dynoed and found power drops hard at only 4400rpm. The car feels normal and doesn't do anything to lead me to think its mechanical. Can a poor tune mess things up that bad. By the way its a stock motor w/ every bolt on and suppose to run 7lbs. At 4400 it made a measly 315 at wheels.I guess mail order pcm is not what its cracked up to be???

When you dynoed, did they gather information like hp, torque, A/F, boost,.. at every 100rpm or so. If you have that, you may be able to send this info back and have it retune based on this new data.

Tuning is usually a very iterative exercise to get it close. Since your car will be quite fast, you may also consider getting the Edit or Tunercat so that you can flash it in yourself without having to send your PCM out everytime for retune. OBDI tuning tools are quite cheap compare to OBDII.

Are you running lean at 4400rpm, and is your injectors sufficient. Do you know if you are actually seeing 7# of boost?

good luck

re-

It was a portable unit w/ nothing extra. w/ the tunercat do I need a laptop or is it handheld. Finding local help is a bitch, I'm in s.c. and wish someone could dyno tune it. is the tunercat easy to use?? Any idea how much power I'm missing out on??
