Using Scanner on OBD1 conversion

Ok, So I a 96 Z28 with the Obd-i conversion from Ion. I also have a Snap-on Mtg2500 scanner. I haven't been able to get it to read the OBD-i pcm like I was hoping it would. Has anyone been able to figure out how to use a scanner like that? or what does everyone with an OBD-i conversion do? My searches didn't come up with much, I wasnt sure exactly how to word it. I was more interested in checking for knock retard more than anything. But if I have to end up with Autotap that wouldn't be a bad idea.

You should be able to make the scanner work if you use the reader key and connector for a 95 car. Most people just use datamaster to scan their obd1 conversion.
