LT1 Tuning Info Sites

Edit: See bottom up thread for tuning sites.

I see alot of people that have files that are associated with 1.6 RR and Long tubes.

Is there really any tuning needed for these bolt ons.
Or are most people just tweaking for minor results.

Jeff

These are people trying to eak out every last bit, you could re-tune a stock car and find some power, but you dont need too.

Hey Doc...
How much untapped HP do you think the Stock tunning has in it?
I'm just trying to get a feel for the value of spending alot of time finding it.

Its going to depend on every car of course, but I've heard as much as 15 HP, this is probably only within a 1500 or so RPM spread too, not everywhere. Is it worth $100-$200 of dyno time to find out? Not for me.

Greatly appreciated.
By the way, you seem to have most of this info down.
Do you have any place besides LT1edit list that you get your info?
Just looking to keep myself up to speed and informed.
Thanks

When I get home later I can post a 'bunch' of links, there were a few things I read several times before you start to get it down yourself. But I did hang on the LT1 Edit list for a good while as well, and the Tunercat list which moves alot slower, probably because most of them only have an occasional problem, which is usually putting a late model FI setup in an old car, or things of that nature.

You can hit the LT1 Edit list and just remain on digest mode, or read only via the web, after you play with the stuff for awhile you will get the hang of it. After all, basically you are looking at timing, and fuel, for tuning, learning to 'read' the sensors and then knowing how to move them where you want them is what it comes down to. MAP values help tell you about the efficiency of the engine, so alot of the reading will be averaging MAP values and such with Excel, at least thats what I use along with FreeScan. You can do all kinds of plotting and averaging and graphs to help obtain a clearer picture of what is doing what and where etc

I've been reading the LT1 list for a long time as well.
The only problem is that sometimes the terminology is completely different from that of TunerCat
I usually get the gist of what they are refering too.

I have been plotting and graphing my runs for awhile but when your not really sure how certain values relate to other values it just like flying blind.

I guess I need to get LT1 Engine Theory 101 under my belt before I can really say I understand the computer and its tables.

Yep, once you know how the car works the terminology is no real different at all, the tables may have different names but timing is timing, VE is VE, injector PW is injector PW, and so on.

Once you get the sensors down (Fred's page was good for this), the rest is learning to manipulate them, and really its not that bad with some practice I spent around 2 weeks reading and re-reading things before I started to feel comfortable, this is really the first car that I've had that I've played with to this extent, other than that it was basic maintenance stuff.

I unfortunately dont know Joe G's new domain for VEMaster, so if you search it on the net you may find it, but I mostly dig up links to discussions and old files. You may have that link and many of the above, some of the other ones I have are not very helpfull, and some of the above likewise may or may not be that helpfull, some of them definately should be. Off the top of my head, the ones to check out I have marked with an *, read, print out, re-read, yada yada
