tuning for 42# lucas injectors

installed some injectors, model 01d023b, supposed to be 42lb injectors.
i program the injector constant to 42.5lbs and put the pressure at 60# to be safe. now the car won't idle, it'll fire but wants to die right away. i put the old tune in for 24's and put the pressure at 90lbs to get it to idle.

whats going on? did i get screwed on these injectors or what?
am i missing something on programing it or what?

Even though you set the injector rate. You still need to set the injector constants. The table is Injector offset VS Battery voltage.

What do you mean? They should be high imp. injectors. I have a set in my 383 besides running slightly rich when cold it idles fine.

Re: tuning for 42# lucas injectors

For the injector constant to be correct, you need to take the fuel pressure into consideration. The injectors are rated at 42# at a certain fuel pressure (probably 39 or 43.5psi). Increase the fuel pressure and you now have larger injectors. So assuming that the injectors are 42# at 43.5 psi and you jack the fuel pressure up to 60psi, then they end up being something higher, maybe 50-55#. There are formulas all over the place for calulating correct injector constants at different fuel pressures. What seems troubling is that you put the stock injectors in with the fuel pressure at 90psi ( ) and it ran ok? What injector constant was in the pcm at that time? For what it's worth, I recently installed 42# FMS injectors with the pressure set at 43.5 and the required injector constant worked out to 44.2#. This is due to the fact that the FMS injectors are rated at 39psi. My fuel trims at idle and cruise are very close to 128, and it runs great!

These injectors are rated 42.29# @ 43.5 psi. The injector constant needs to be increased to 49.67# @ 60 psi.

Re: tuning for 42# lucas injectors

sorry i was thinking we needed low imp. ok ours are high, if they were the wrong imp. they probably would've fried the pcm.

i tried programing for 50's and 42, the car didn't want to run. programed it for a 24 with the lucas injectors and cranked the pressure up to get it to work. that tells me they must be around a 19lb or lower injector.

put my stock injectors back in at 60psi and she's running great, took it for a short drive just be sure, everythings running fine...
i'm quite sure i got screwed on these, i'll have to flow test them to find out what they really are. got them from someone off fbody.com

anyway, thanks.
