Tunercat for a 96?

I'm thinking of getting a 96 LT1 b-body. Does anyone know if tunercat will work with it? If not, what's my next best option? I'd rather steer away from LT1 edit because of the cost and the vin lock. Thanks.

Convert it to OBDI, like i did, now you can use tuner cat . Madz28.com supplied my conversion.

Re: Tunercat for a 96?

OK, I've heard of people doing that. What are the pros and cons? What's involved and how much does it cost? If I do convert it, what car would I have to tell tunercat that I'm using it for?

Edit one more time: Went to the site and liked it. Just a simple R&R of the computer. Doesn't get any easier than that.

http://madz28.com/9697.php its on that page, pros- cheaper software, cons- can have high stall issue w/ automatics. Its basically plug and play.

Man, I edited my post to show that I went to their site, but it's not showing up. They seem to have good prices. If I need to convert, it doesn't seem to be a very big deal. I would just need to know what to tell tunercat I'm driving.

What part number is it? I didn't see it at their site. What are you using it on?

How high of a stall does it have issues with? The most I would go, if I did it, would be maybe 2400 or so. It'll be a daily driver, so I don't want to adversely affect driveability or mileage. That's why I like turbos. The only reason I would probably do it is to get a stronger converter with an anti-balloon plate so I don't kill the converter and tranny. My goal for this car is to keep it driving as much like a stock vehicle as I possibly can, until I get into it. Then I want it to seem like the world is coming to an end. Turbos seem like they can come very close to that.
BTW, how is tunercat for tuning boosted applications?

Im pretty sure its like 3600 you start to have problems, i know its over 3k. And i didnt know it was out for OBDII yet, they've been working on it forever but never saw that it was released for our cars 96-97.

Re: Tunercat for a 96?

You can get Tunercat for OBDII, but it's $300 + $80 for the def. file = $380

OBDI Tunercat is only $70 + $20 = $90.

Of course, the OBDI conversion costs enough to make the two choices about the same money-wise.

What other advantages does OBD1 have over OBD2, other than tunercat being cheaper?

I have the OBD II Tuner cat and it works very well, I would personally stick with the OBD II computer. Only advantage to OBD I is a little cheaper.

Many tuners state that they usually get a few more HP with OBDI, and less pesky fault codes. Tuning and datalogging software for OBDI is cheap/free. I think that even the interface cables for OBDI might be a bit cheaper, but don't know for sure.

Check out your emissions laws - some states' inspections will require you to have OBDII for the plug-in test.

What are you using for a cable, BTW?
