Re: shift points?

Leave them stock, increasing them on a stock motor will actually make you slower.........trust me, I tried the same thing when I got an HPP3

Re: shift points?

The best way to make an auto shift faster is too add a shift kit. A programmer only increases the pressure which in turn burns the trans out faster.

i'm not talking about the shift firmness which the line preassure refers to but when the tranny actually shifts you can increase it in +1 or -1 mph increments. and i wanted to know if i should leave it stock or raise or lower any of the shifting points and whichs ones would make the car quicker.

Re: shift points?

For maximum acceleration, you want to shift at the point in the RPM range where your power is the same before and after the shift. The best way to determine that? A dyno, plain and simple.

Basically, take the car and dyno it, that should give you a nice drawn power curve for the car.

You can then note the shifting speed for each gear, compare that to one of the gear calculator sheets out there for your gear ratio, and adjust accordingly.

I can't speed for the Hypertech because I am not sure if it gives you the ability to change the **** points for WOT and non-WOT driving. With Tunercat or LT1 Edit you get finer control over the shifting.
