Second PCM fried by TUNERCAT!!!!
Second PCM fried by TUNERCAT!!!!
Just received a new PCM from Madwolf today (btw, thankyou Ion) and replaced the fried PCM with it. The new PCM has a stock tune so I have to flash my H/C program onto it. After the new PCM was installed all prior SES and fan problems went away, then I downloaded my H/C tune and wouldn't ya know it...... Fried the new PCM.
I've had about enough of this ****
I would like to give everyone a heads-up about the new OBDll TUNERCAT for LT1's.... IT WILL MORE THAN LIKELY SCREW UP YOUR PCM!!!
I'm sure someone may think this to be a little harsh, but a few of us have already had this NEW program bit us in the A$$. I would hate to see anyone else get burnt by it untill TUNERCAT sorts out the problems with this NEW program.
I will be contacting TUNERCAT tonight to explain to them all of my problems, and shall post updates as things progress.
Thank god this is not my only vehicle, as it has already been down for over a week now and I do not expect the problem to be fixed anytime soon.
Madwolf - Again, thanks for the help on the second PCM... You the man!!!

Re: Second PCM fried by TUNERCAT!!!!
You got to be doing something wrong.. I've flashed my personal vehicle over 30 times with no problems at all.
Replace your battery, check your connections and turn off all the BS in your laptop.

Re: Second PCM fried by TUNERCAT!!!!
Are you using TUNERCAT for a 1997 OBDll LT1?
I'm doing NOTHING wrong.... EVERYTHING has been followed to the letter, per the TUNERCAT manual!
The battery is less the two months old and has been tested... Check!
All connections have been checked and then checked again... Check!
Waited for all power consuming instruments to shut off before the reprogram, including interior lights... Check!
The laptop was bought for the sole purpose of tuning, it meets all specs set by TUNERCAT to run the program. Absolutly no extra crap has been installed on this laptop, the laptop is not the problem... Check!
I have no problems reading the PCM or doing anything else for that matter, the problem only shows it's ugly head when I try to program the PCM.
Any other suggestions.............

Re: Second PCM fried by TUNERCAT!!!!
The flash process does finish, nothing gets interupted, a window pops up on the laptop saying that the reprogam has been successful. It's the very next time the key is turned that all hell breaks loose.
Re: Second PCM fried by TUNERCAT!!!!
Its possible the file you uploaded into those PCMs was corrupt in some way. I actually had this happen before and figured it out after 2 PCMs were sacraficed. Dunno why or how it happens but I have proved its possible... maybe get a new file and try it out on the next PCM.

Re: Second PCM fried by TUNERCAT!!!!
I need a file for a Heads/Cam set-up, otherwise I will have to load up a stock file then limp the car to a dyno for some tuning. I really don't feel like shelling out a ton of money for someone to tune my car in from a stock program, it will take hours and hundreds of dollars. I already spent 500 plus dollars just to have my car broken, kinda chapps my a$$ now that I think about it.

Re: Second PCM fried by TUNERCAT!!!!
Yes, I can do that.
Damn fine idea!
One of the only options I have left, now I just have to get one of these PCM's working again so I can try it. Thanks turbo_Z!!

Re: Second PCM fried by TUNERCAT!!!!
Ive seen quite a few corrupted programs too. Some of them wont start, some wont adjust things you change, some wont run right at all. Start off with a totally new program from someplace else and go from there.
