Replacing a 93 4l60 with a muncie 4 speed..what PCM changes needed and what effects?

I have a 93 trans am and I am thinking of putting the LT1 from it into an older car with a muncie 4 speed or a TH350. I understand I have to get the PCM reprogrammed to remove the auto trans information, but what are the effects on engine performance? Does the removed program do anything other than monitor what gear the trans is in? Does the engine run in some sort of limp home mode since it does not get any transmission information or does it run as if there was a T56 installed? Just trying to figure out if the engine will run differently with the reprogramming because I like the balance of power and fuel economy I get like it is now. Thanks!

I don't believe you will need to reprogram, your 93 doesn't have a PCM it has an ECU (PCM controlls transmission as well as engine while ECU only controlls engine)

Thanks for the reply, what year did PCMs start being used? Some posts I have seen here state that programming would be needed to replace the 4L60 with a 700r4 in a 93 so I figured I also would need to reprogram.

they started using powertrain controll modules in 94.
the 4l60 is a 700r4 the only time you need tuning is to replace the 4l60e with a 700r4 in the 94-02 models.

Excellent, thanks..looks like I can use whatever trans I want as long as I get the VSS set up correctly with the 93.
