Reducing power through programming - tire spin issues

I finally got my 396 on the road in my 96 Impala with 18x12 and 335/30-18's. I have 3.73 gears, aftermarket control arms, Hotchkis lowering springs and airlift air bags. Shocks are Koni front and Bilstein's in the rear. Previously my bolt-ons 350 + 175 shot would not spin the tires if I hit nitrous after about 2 seconds - 1/2 an intersection. Now I can't go WOT until I've shifted into 2nd gear. Would the traction control tables be any help with this?

Any way to detune but only affect first gear????

I need to buy some HAL shocks but money is tight so I'm using whatever tools are available to me cheaply.

Let me know,
Mike

I've fiddled with using the traction control tables a little to help control wheelspin by reducing timing, but I think the traction control also applies the abs in some way....so it's kind of been a waste of time.

It's called drag radials or ET streets.

Not an option...
That's why I bought 335/30-18's and 18x12 wheels.

I have ET Streets for the track.
