Realtime MAF translator

I dont have much experience with MAF translator, but I assumed that it does not allow for real time adjustments. Is there any way to do this? I was thinking about tuning open loop and then using an adjustment with a wideband (or possibly CO readings) to nail the tune down while cruising.

Any ideas?

I dont understand why you dont think a MAF Translator workes in real time.
How do you think it functions?

Re: Realtime MAF translator

Like I said, I have never used one, but from what I understand, it changes the MAF reading at various points.

I want something with a **** where I can vary the reading in real time. Turn of a dial and it runs richer and another turn makes it leaner. Is that how the MAFT works?

Im sure there could be some way to rig it up using resistors or the like. I am handy with wiring and I understand EE.

The MAFT will do that for you. There are two switches in the MAFT box. Chose two particular settings (one is for part throotle, the second for WOT) and go out and data log. If you want, splice in long extensions wires and I guess you could have the MAFT box next to the drivers seat. But, I would not advise this approach.

It sounds like to me, you should buy the MAFT and tune to your hearts content.

Re: Realtime MAF translator

Really I want it for cruise. I want to tune the car in open loop and fiddle with the MAF readings to get AFR where I want it for cruising using wideband.

Possible?

Re: Realtime MAF translator

Actually, the ECM (PCM) will correct the fueling to achieve 14.7 AFR while at idle or cruise. Tuning for cruise will only result in a smaller correction factor., which is fine but does not really get you anything.

Where tuning really comes in big time is at WOT AFR. The only cruise correction factor carried over to WOT is if the correction is adding fuel. If the cruise correction factor is negative(taking away fuel) this is not carried over to WOT. In this last case, the correction factor is 128 (for OBD1 system) or 0% (for OBD2 systems).

Re: Realtime MAF translator

For the price of a MAFT I would go with an editing program.
The MAFT has an "hole" at a certain RPM (4500 or so). AF isn't correct in that particular spot.
I would save the money...
