Lightbulb Madwolf...Question on Belkin/Com Port Recognition

I was wondering if anyone had an answer to this delimma. I have the belkin unit from AKM to hook the cable into the USB port then to the car...using a "madwolf" tune. When I try to load the program in the car, it asks me which com port I am using...1-4...and everyone 1 select says that it is not a valid com port. Any suggestions??
Thanks.
John

Which Belkin adapter are you using? (Part Number)

It should have come with software to let the system know that the device will be used as a com port.

It's a Belkin USB Serial Adapter F5U103. I tried putting it onto another computer, with windows 98 and it allocated com port 4 as the port number. When you load the program in, it asks for the program name and the port number 1-4. I put in the program name and then port 4. And it still says invalid port. On the front of the unit, it has 5 lights. The second green light is the one blinking. I hope this helps. I need to get this thing flashed!!

Did you install the Belkin drivers?
You should have a listing under device drivers for the Belkin USB com port and it will give you the number there.

Yeah, I installed the drivers and looked in the advanced device settings, and it allocated port 5(on xp)...and the program only recognizes ports 1-4. But when I installed it on my other laptop with windows 98, it used com port 4. When I went to flash the program, and put in port 4, it still said that it was in invalid port?? I seem to be doing everything correctly. Not sure if it's the program or the USB adapter..??

I have the same adapter and it works great.....

Here's what to do:
1. Delete all the com ports
2. Unplug the USB adapter
3. Reboot
4. Go into the BIOS and disable all com ports
5. Startup Windows
6. Plug in USB Adapter
The only com port listed now will be the USB com port.

You probably have all com ports enabled in the BIOS....
Ideally you should only have 1 and 2 but it's found all 4.

Okay, I followed what you told me to do. However, it still didn't work. It saved on com 4, but was specified as invalid when trying to load the program on...I have no clue what the deal could be. I've emailed both AKM and Madwolf. Don't know what else to do.
