Pulling timing under heavy load... is it abnormal?

Was scanning my car.
While taking off from a light in first, even when I was getting on it everything read ok. When cruising in third at 1200 rpms or so and then getting on it I'd start getting an increasing knock count and spark retard, at the worst the spark retard was at 4.7 degrees, but this was extreme and rare.
Is this something I should be worried about? Something I can change? Or is this normal?

Im not sure what your supporting mods are but most likely it is faulse knock. Only way to make sure is to put some higher octain fuel in the tank and scan it again.

I zeroed all the knock tables with LT1 edit. Timing was being reduced with all the added mod noise. (383-D1, RR's headers, etc).

It's not good to totally remove any knock sensing. Would you ignore a knocking rod?

Theres nothing reduced timing will do against rod knocking. As long as your tune is dead on I see no reason why you shouldnt be able to zero out your knock table.

Do this and report back. I don't like the suggestion of just zeroing out knock tables.

I'm not terribly interested in removing the knock function, like I said, I was mostly wondering if it was normal or not. I take it that pulling timing when the engine is heavily loaded is abnormal?

I can take off in second gear and there is no retarding of the timing. When I get on it and spin it 6200 the most retard I get is .4 and no knock count. It only happens when I bog the motor heavily.

Motor is a 97 LT1 EGR! AIR! LT4 KM, ported heads, cam, 1.6 RR, solid motor mounts, poly trans mounts, longtubes. Pretty standard 4th gen.

I'll find some fuel tomorrow and see what I find.

0.4 is nothing. Stock tables can pull up to 15 degrees. If the tune is good, you can set it to whatever you want and it'll never get retarded if there is no knock.
