permanent pcm damage?
permanent pcm damage?
just recently I noticed a faint smell of rubber/plastic burning. I thought it might be a plug wire. I opened hood and the battery "clamp" came undone and battery was loose and arcing to body. I had a ses and car was running crappy so then I tried hooking up reader via obd2 port and was unable to establish a connection. So I immediately asumed my flash chips were corrupt. I took out pcm resoldered working chips to no avail. Now low speed fans come on with ignition on. When I busted the pcm trying to upload a tune high speed fans would come on so I believe I have a diff problem. I checked all fuses and they checked out fine. I redid my soldering job making sure not to bridge any points. Now my question is did I actually fry the pcm with the arcing of the ppost to body? Car would start before I replaced chips but I could not establish a connection with pcm. Car only cranks but wont start. Fuel pump relay clicks and I can hear fp. TIA
Re: permanent pcm damage?
One way to know for sure is to swap out with a known good PCM. They can be had for cheap now-a-days. Just curious why you would go through all that trouble to desolder and resolder new chips without putting in sockets or just buying a know working PCM?
Re: permanent pcm damage?
at first I did socket the pcm. I have a willem programmer that was giving me problems it ended up being a bad plcc socket so I replaced it and solved the write/erase problems. So I thought maybe the sockets I have are faulty as well but I guess not because I am still getting same results. Im just curious why the car was turning on before I replaced the chips, and why I coulndnt connect to the pcm through the obd2 port.
Re: permanent pcm damage?
Alright I tried a working pcm and still getting same results. This time fp relay clicks multiple times then finally fp turns on. Same low speed fan results and cant connect to pcm. Short in ground wire? Something is shorted im guessing. Can anybody lead me in the right direction in solving this problem?
