Performance Chips

Im thinking about getting a performance chip for my 2000 Z28, all i have in it now is flowmaster exhaust and k&n filter, other than that its completely stock, thats how i bought it about a two months ago. Does anyone know what performance chip gives u good amount of HP for your buck. Also i dont really know alot about performance chips, do they damage anything by putting more stress on your engine or is there anything else i should know about before i buy it. Thanks alot guys

Yeah, none of them. Don't by the retail ****. If you want a tune there's several good places to get them.

It isn't a "chip" any more.... It is a tune. I had a 1988 TA with a physical chip in it but anything newer that 1993 as I understand it is a reprogram. There are several reputable tuners out there offering a custom tune for your application.

I had a JET "performance" chip in my 99 Z. Seriously f'd up my shift points, etc... You can have it if you want it,lol. I learned my lesson and got a Custom Dyno-tune. Generic Chip-Tunes are just a waste imo.

It is true you would see some gains with a tune/chip but you are so lightly modified that it would not at all be what you would expect.

Might I suggest getting gears or headers before you entertain the thought of getting into tuning these cars.

go buy a honda if you want a " performance chip." dont waste your money. f-bodies need there PCM reflashed via specific software. there are many reputable mail order tunes out there. i suggest you do your research and read up on how these cars work

As others here have said, don't bother buying a replacement chip. You can have your stock engine computer reprogrammed. This is usually called having your car "tuned" or "getting a tune".

I wouldn't expect to gain more than five horsepower by having your car tuned -- the stock tune is pretty darn good on these cars. Maybe once you've done some more mods, it would be worth considering.

If you still want a tune, the easiest way to get your car tuned is to use a mail-order tuner. There are a few reputable mail-order tuners for our cars. A couple of them used to be supporting vendors on this forum, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Anyway, any experienced LS1 tuner will do an excellent job -- it's totally up to you which you choose.
