obd2 to obd1
Ok guys maybe you can help answer a few questions. I have a 96 z with obd2 obviously. My question is if I wanted to make the swap would all I have to do is get a ecm from say a 94 or 95 with mass air. What are the benefits of going to obd1. Im thinking of getting lt1 edit , with lt1 edit would I be better off going to obd1 or is there obd2 program just as good. also could you guys give me an idea how much this is going to cost.
thanks, nate
thanks, nate
Nate,
The knock sensor is different 94-95 and 96-97 - so you either have to swap it, or you can get clever and solder a resistor in the pcm to use the 96-97 style knock sensors, which is what I did.
The reprogramming and logging software for obd-1 is significantly cheaper than obd-2. The cheapest reprogramming software is tunercat (www.tunercat.com) and the best logging software is Datamaster (www.akmcable.com). It is cheaper to buy an obd-1 pcm and the tools vs getting lt1-edit for obd-2 and autotap.

I have an OBD2 - OBD1 conversion package available.
It includes an OBD1 PCM that HAS been modified for OBD2 knock sensor. Also includes TTS Datamaster, LT1 Edit and a cable.
Now the cable has a little question mark beside it. It worked fine for scanning but I had trouble with Edit. However, my mate had a cable so I would just use his. I had other problems with my laptop so I do not know if the computer was the problem. I will try and confirm that the cable is fine before selling.
I have to investigate what it is "worth" so anyone feel free to chime in with an offer or what is a reasonable price.

Just like 97TA, I have a OBD2-1 conversion package for sale as well if you don't need the software. Although I suggest if you are making the swap to OBD1 and have the extra cash to go with his setup since you won't have to go and purchase the software seperately. But if it comes down to it and you're tight on funds I thought I'd let you know that I have a modified PCM/Cable for sale as well. Mine already has a LT4hotcam+boltons program in it as well...which could be another hurdle. But I thought I'd just give you another option if you don't can't take the initial cost hit all at once.
