Newbie scan/dianostics questions.
My car currently is limited to bolt-ons, and a NX kit. I keep it tuned up pretty well. The odometer shows 156k and until recently is has ran very strong. Occasionaly I have a strange "miss" that comes and goes at random times, hence my reason for this post.
Questions
1. What functions can a scanner perform? I'm sure there are alot,
I just want to get a feel of how useful they are. For example,
can I find out what my hestiation is and will it say specifically
02's are bad, or __degrees knock reulting from__
ect.?
2. Which software comes recommended by you all?
3. Do I need some sort of laptop set up or just a
Scanmaster?
4. Is there a chance that something small might be going on that
I don't know about that could be hurting my performance that
a scanner would find?
5. Is there a FAQ list, or a site with good general info for newbs such as myself?
I'm extremely wet behind the ears when it comes to scanners, tunning ect. So thanks for the help everyone. All infomation is greatly appreciated.

1) http://members.aol.com/InjuneerZZ/ScanMast.htm That website explains almost all the sensor values you can monitor.
2) Well my car has OBDII, so I'm not that familiar with scanners for your car.
3) The only way you won't need a laptop is if you purchase a hand held scanner or a Scanmaster, otherwise all the software requires a laptop.
4) Yep.
