New OBD1 pcm question

I have a new pcm that has never been flashed. Can I just flash it with my tune and be back on the road or is there something else??

Re: New OBD1 pcm question

Ion, I was able to call one of the local tuners in the area and he said I had to take it to a dealership to get them to flash the pcm before I could change it with my tunercat file. This pcm is brand spanking new never been installed if that clears things up

No. You can flash your good old file on it and it will work.

Free for trial, but not totally free. Freescan is free, though.

Re: New OBD1 pcm question

Okay I know nothing about computers, just that on a recent diagnosis of my car I was told that I had a quad-driver failing. What does that mean, what will happen if I keep driving it like this, and how/where can I fix it?
I figured with talk of people buying new pcms this might be the thread to ask where to get one, or if I need to get one to fix this problem.

Where do you get the data file for a camaro for freescan? I downloaded that program little while ago and installed but when I try to switch the vehicle type to my car it pops up some kind of error saying that it can't find the data file for this car..

I get that exact same message- but i have the 94 camaro selected...

but anyways- click OK on that lil error box- then the control window of Freescan will pop up- then on the right of that window about 1/2 way down there will be a drop down arrow- the vehicle selections are in there- but as far as gettin the file- i dunno- i get the same error message....

Re: New OBD1 pcm question

so when you buy a new pcm from the auto parts store that needs to be flashed you dont have to take it to the dealership first so they can put in the vin number or anything do you? i was wondering the same thing (if i could just buy one and use tunercat to load in my tune)
